Hi there.....

So kind of you to stop by....I do enjoy the company.

Thursday, March 31, 2011

Bleh. That's what today is. It's wet and gray and generally depressing. No work can be done in the yard 'cause everybit of earth that should be worked would turn into mud. The deer fencing awaits, stored under the porch until such time as it can be installed. There's a lot of work that needs to be done first.

I'm going into the co-op/gallery today. Hopefully I'll get something done there.

Y'all have a clear day ....

I have no idea what I am doing out of bed.

Well, whoop di doo. It appears that the flashing around my chimney is in bad shape. I knew something was amiss so I called a roofing company (the company that originally did the job isn't around anymore, go figure). It's gonna cost about a grand to get it fixed but they can't fix it until sometime next week. In the meantime I get to listen to water dripping down the inside of the wall next to the fireplace in my room. Not exactly a noise to put one to sleep. Nope. I tossed and turned last night wishing I could block it out. And, unfortunately, we're supposed to get more rain in the next two days. Oh, the joys of home ownership. It's times like this that I think about getting a condo somewhere and letting someone else worry about things that go wrong. Just glad I have the wherewith to have it done.
Y'all have a dry day and consider: Life isn't like a bowl of cherries....it's more like a jar of jalapenos; what you do today might burn your ass tomorrow.

Another gray day.....sigh. What to do, what to do. Could finish sewing project I guess or get some cleaning done. Just wish the sun would shine through the fog and gray. Sigh.....

Have a good day and consider: Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.

So....I went to K2's house warming yesterday filled with trepidation about so many kids. The grandson had 2 meltdowns because K2's little girl wouldn't let him play with her toys. Calm was restored when he went downstairs to the basement where it was quiet and he was allowed to read one of J's comicbooks. Another little boy came down and R read to him for a while. Then another friend came down and they played. When it was time to go R was having trouble breathing from all the running around and rough-housing but A came to the rescue with her inhaler and after a couple of puffs R was fine. I don't like a lot of noise and, although I enjoyed visiting with the folks I know, I was glad when it came time to leave and I could get back to quiet. Looks like I won't get any gardening done today. It's supposed to rain.....again. Well, there's laundry to do (so what else is new?) and laundry to put away. I can finish the quilt challenge so that will be out of the way. I'm going to experiment with decolorant on one of my black shirts. If that works well the rest of my dark clothes need to watch out! I have some nice stencils to work with. Y'all have a wondermous day and remember: Everyone needs a little humor.

Rain, rain go away. I'm going to a housewarming today and taking my grandson. Apparently there will be a number of children. A number of children trapped in a house because of rain.....chaos. I wonder if I can find my ear plugs. Oh well, at least my daughter's Someone will have a break from him for a while. He's been doing yeoman's duty (taking care of an 8-year old and an infant) while daughter has been working (any income is better than none, right?) at the track. Hopefully T will pick up my grandson this evening and take him for a couple of days. Guess I'd better get a move on. I have appetizers to prepare for the housewarming, and a couple of errands to run on my way down to daughter's home. Y'all have a sunny day and remember: We could certainly slow the aging process down if it had to work its way through Congress.....Will Rogers

Thursday, March 24, 2011

It rained so hard last night that I think the canyons in my driveway are now twice as deep. Looks like I'll have to get that taken care of.....sigh. The thrills of home ownership. I also have to get the light/fan switch in my bedroom fixed or I'll be a mite uncomfortable when warmer weather gets here.
Believing the weather forecast yesterday I didn't go outside to get stuff done in the garden but did get the laundry finished and some sewing and knitting done. Guess what....it didn't rain until the middle of the night!
The dogwoods are just about to be in bloom. I'd have azaleas underneath them if there weren't any deer around to eat them. The sight of the dogwoods and azaleas in bloom in the spring is what brought me to Georgia in the first place. I've now lived here for almost 30 years....the longest I've ever lived anywhere. I'm glad.
What's your favorite thing about where you live?

Wednesday, March 23, 2011

Wow, did I get some weeding done yesterday morning! There's a spot to the right of the stairs going up to my front porch that was covered with weeds. I hadn't done anything with it for over least a year. Seeing the lonely batch of flowers huddled in the middle, struggling to survive, made me feel guilty so that's the area I tackled yesterday. I'd say I got 99.5% of the weeds. Enough to fill a 30 gallon trash can. Now all that needs to be done is some soil amendment and I can transplant some iris there.
I must say the back of my legs are telling me they aren't happy with all the bending and pulling I did. Guess I need to get out there and weed more.
Weather forecast is for rain fo it looks like I'll be getting stuff done indoors. The dust elephants await.
Y'all have a good day and think of all the good things you've experienced.

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

Look out weeds, I'm comin' to git ya!
Today is a beautiful sunny day. One for getting out and getting some weeding done. There's a particular spot I want to get cleared so I can dig up the iris that are in the spot where I'm hoping to plant some veggies this year. One must take advantage of the good days even though there is a pile of laundry to do and the dust bunnies are turning into dust elephants.
It's tempting to plant flowers but I know better. Too many times has the weather been beautiful this time of year only to turn ugly and cold in the next month killing everything just planted.
Guess I'd better get a move on if I want to get something done. Y'all have a good day and remember: Don't piss off the faeries.

Monday, March 21, 2011

Well, I missed yesterday. That's because family was here and we were celebrating Ostara (Spring equinox). We dyed some eggs and while J and R went fishing I was held down by a baby for 3 hours. She had been very fussy while we were decorating and dying eggs so I took her into the bedroom to see if she would lie down (she was fighting sleep like you wouldn't believe!). Nope, that wasn't going to do it so I picked her up, wrapped her in one of her blankets and whammo...she was out like a light. Wanting to be comfortable I sat in my recliner with her on my chest. She never moved..... so there I was, held down by a baby. Daughter and I had some nice chat time while the boys were drowning worms. All in all it was a very nice visit.
Today I'll catch up on laundry and various and sundry other things. I have three days so I should be able to get a bunch done.
Y'all have a productive day and remember: He who dies with the most toys......is still dead.

Saturday, March 19, 2011

Supposed to be nice today until tonight. Then the rain is supposed to start. Figures. Daughter and family are coming up late this afternoon. Seems like almost every time they come up it rains. I'll never get a garden in if this keeps up. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy having them here. It's just frustrating for J not to be able to work outside.
The moon is supposed to be extra bright tonight.....if the clouds don't cover it. Would love to see it. I know it was extra bright last night. Luckily I was able to fall asleep. Sometimes during the near full/full moon I have a hard time.
How 'bout you?

Friday, March 18, 2011

Looks like another beautiful day. Makes me want to go outside and plant something. Oh, wait. Yes, wait. We still aren't past the last possible frost date yet and I don't want to buy plants twice. Think I'll wait until after Easter. That's usually pretty safe, at least for annuals.
Went to the co-op yesterday and actually did accomplish a couple of things. It felt good getting back into "the swing of things" so to speak and great to see friends. I'm going back today.

A great niece is in the hospital with an unknown infection, causing fluid build up just about everywhere so it would be greatly appreciated if you could keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Y'all have a healthy day and ask yourself.....If you had known you were going to live this long would you have taken better care of yourself?

Thursday, March 17, 2011

I'm going to the co-op today and am running late. This change the clock thing has me all messed up. I HATE it. So all I'll say today is: Happy green day.
Btw...if you want to know the REAL reason for this day go to http://kyddryn.blogspot.com

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Yay, I see blue sky! That's great 'cause otherwise I'd have to drive in the rain and I'm not too fond of that. 'Specially because of other drivers.
Today I'm going to see my attorney to update my will. While I don't foresee my demise happening any time too soon, it's always wise to have a will, particularly if one has children. The first time I had it done my kids were minors. That was almost 20 years ago. And things have changed. Shouldn't take too long. At least I hope not. This guy is not cheap.....but he is good. Then, on my way home, I'll stop off at the CPA's to drop off my tax stuff.....whoopeee. I'll be a happy camper if I don't have to pay anybody this year (I should be so lucky).
Y'all have a profitable day and remember: Speak your mind, even if your voice shakes.

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

It was supposed to rain yesterday so I made plans accordingly. It didn't. Now it is. Hopefully it will clear up before I need to go into town. I'm supposed, I think, to go to a meeting this morning for the guild but I'm going to pass. I'll go to the regularly scheduled meeting this afternoon. I got up late and feel rushed. Don't like that. It sure would be nice if we could have nice weather for the rest of the week. Or even for the next 10 days or so so my daughter's Someone could come up and get started on the garden. Not that we'll plant anything yet, but it sure needs prepping. I need to order some deer fencing (it's invisible to deer), too.
Reckon I'd better get a move on. Y'all have an interesting day and remember: Live so your memories will be part of your happiness.

Monday, March 14, 2011

It's gonna rain today. I'm going to knit today and maybe sort through all the stuff I brought back from the sewing expo. Oh yeah, there's laundry to do, too.
Just got off the phone with a friend of mine in MI. She had a cancer that cleared up but now has another. I swear, if she had any luck at all it would be bad. There are other things going wrong that are too numerous to list. She's fighting like the trooper she is, though, and I give her credit for it.
I hope that those in Japan are able to overcome their problems. Although nuclear power plants are much safer these days I guess it isn't prudent to build one on or near to a fault line. It appears that our Mother is getting pissed and letting us know just who's in charge. I'll keep the people in my prayers in hopes that they recover quickly.
Meanwhile, you have a safe day and remember: Love your Mother.

Sunday, March 13, 2011

Wow, had to get up early 3 days in a row for the Sewing Expo. Had a great time greeting new people at the door while checking to make sure they had the correct "bracelet" or badge on. Also spent time in the guild booth selling chances on our "opportunity" quilt. Of course I spent money on fabric and some new stuff that I haven't tried before. My credit card isn't exactly weeping but I did put a good dent in it as well as spending cash. I think most of the cash, though, went for food. Always expensive at these things! Getting to spend some time with fellow guild members was cool. I plan on volunteering for the Quilt Expo in October. I have found that working the event gives me less time to go around and spend money. A GOOD THING. I always seem to have ideas in my head when I see stuff, but then after I've bought it and brought it home the idea is gone and I ask myself why I bought it.
There were some beautiful quilts on display. Made me wonder why I make them, mine are so pedestrian compared to the ones I saw. Of course, mine are more to be used than just viewed so maybe I shouldn't feel so bad. I am going to have fun, though, experimenting with some of the the stuff I bought. That is, when I can find time.
Time to get a move on and go check the pond. We're due for more rain tomorrow.
Y'all have a peaceful Sunday and remember: Going to church no more makes you a christian than standing in your garage makes you a car.

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

I was a slacker this morning. It's raining, gray and gloomy. I wanted to stay in bed but my brain wouldn't let me. Soooooo, I've caught up on my daughter's blogs and generally mucked about on the computer this morning. I was going to take my tax stuff to the CPA but with all the rain and flood warnings, I decided that it could wait for a few more days. My daughter's best friend is having a house warming at the end of the month so I asked her what her colours are (meaning what colours did she have in the house). She replied with colours I think she thought might go well in a quilt (sorry, sweetie, no quilt). She's getting lace knitted washcloths instead. I don't have time to make a quilt but I do have time to knit and I think that's what I'll do today. Perhaps I'll be able to ignore the sound of rain......NOT!
Tomorrow through Saturday I'll be at the Sewing Expo. Hope they have some new stuff. I'm helping out our quilt guild so we can sell tickets for our opportunity quilt without having to pay for the booth. I'm looking forward to it. I'm also probably going to spend some money on stuff I just "can't live without".
Y'all have a dry day and remember: Girls kick ass.

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

It's a lovely day and I'm going to get some more weeding done, I think, after I get a haircut. Then it's on to knit group later this afternoon. One of these centuries I'll get those socks done!
Time's awastin' so I'll be on my way. Y'all have a good day and answer me this: Where have all the hippies gone?

Rain, rain go away

I want to go out and play in the dirt. And I have to go down to the pond and make sure the pipe is clear. The piece of white poly pipe I use as my guide is looking too close to the water. It's supposed to clear up this afternoon so maybe I can take care of that then. Daughter and family are coming up this afternoon.....if it stops raining, that is. J wants to get going on some things outside which is great. It gives me the incentive to get out there and play. Prepping the garden and flower beds will probably take long enough so that there won't be any danger of frost by the time we get to plant. I need to go online and order invisible fencing, too. Don't want the deer eating everything we try to grow (that's why I haven't had a garden in the past).
Y'all have a peaceful Sunday and remember: Emancipate yourself from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds....Bob Marley

Friday, March 4, 2011

Going off to the co-op today. Going to try to get the creative juices flowing again. The much needed vacation was wonderful but now I have to get back to the everyday....whatever. At least there are signs of Spring so I know better weather is around the corner. Of course there is always the possibility of a late frost. We've had them as late as May. I want to plant but know better. I feel sorry for the fools who get Spring fever, plant lots of plants, then have to replace them when a late frost comes. All the places that sell plants love these people. Of course they don't warn them!
Y'all have a comfortable day and remember: Be bold, be thankful, be quiet, be original, be spontaneous, be punctuall, be a star, be young, be loving, be crazy, be loud, be random, be adorable, be unique, be daring, be obnoxious, be yourself.

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

It's another beautiful day. Think I'll get some more weeding done. My body isn't going to like me very much but, hey, it has to be done. Getting older sometimes sucks. I can't stay out there working as long as I used to and the yard seems to be getting bigger every year. Unfortunately there aren't any yard faeries out there to help me. My daughter and family will be coming up today so mayhap J can get some outside stuff accomplished. Sure would be nice. Today is the last day for a while that the weather will be amenable for it. The rest of the week looks like it's going to be for getting stuff done inside.
Y'all have a wonderfilled day and remember: Everything is connected.

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

Got on the scale this morning. After 20 days of excellent food as well as desserts, I gained all of one pound which I am going to try to lose along with about 15 more. Now that decent weather is upon us I'm going to make the effort to walk every day (as long as my ankle will let me, that is). If I don't walk, I'll try to get some work done in the yard. That's good exercise, right?
I slogged my way through all my mail yesterday as well as unpacking both suitcases. Whew! Laundry awaits today and, when it warms up a bit, some weeding is in order. My iris bed is a disaster!
Must go get ready for the day. Y'all have a good one and remember: Relax! You'll get there.
