Hi there.....

So kind of you to stop by....I do enjoy the company.

Things to do today:

1. Get up
2.  Survive
3.  Go back to bed

and a Happy New Year to y'all.

Friday, December 30, 2011

Just received a call from daughter.  Her landline and internet have been cut off and she's not sure how long her cell will be on.  Although I'd like to help her I can't.  I have my own bills to pay and am already paying some of hers.  If her good-for-nothing ex-husband would pay what he owes her she could probably get them turned on again.  I've helped her with all this in the past but can't continue, especially since I don't know what my income is going to be next year.  I hate it but there's nothing I can do.  Her being without the internet isn't so bad as her being without a phone.  If only she hadn't bundled!  At least her laptop has wi-fi capability so she can always go to someplace that offers it for free.
Enough said....on that.
I'm slowly getting rid of whatever crud I caught (probably by going into the evil empire - Walmart - or some other store).  Last night was the first night I actually felt like cooking something for dinner.  It can only get better, right?  The upswing is that I've lost weight.  Of course it wasn't the right way to do it and I'll probably gain some or most of it back.  Hopefully it'll stay off.  I'm now getting into size 10 jeans.  Yay!  At any rate I'm getting to my goal, slowly.  Just a few more pounds and I'll be there.
It's looking gray out there.  Wouldn't be suprised if we got more rain.  Ugh.  We're coming into the time of year I dislike already and rain won't help.  I need sunshine!!  I now understand why older people head to the south and beyond in the winter.  The older I get the more I want more warm weather.
Guess it's time for me to get a move on.  I'm off to the gallery today, then 5 days off.  Tomorrow daughter and I head for Babies are everywhere to get gates and cupboard locks.  Those I don't mind paying for.  Tuesday is my grandson's birthday (9th?!!) and it's going to be celebrated at Chuck E. Cheese (groan).  I think part of my gift will be helping to pay for it.  I'll take some valium and ear plugs.
Y'all have a graceful day and remember:  if you stumble, get the hell up.

Monday, December 26, 2011

It's over....almost.  I'll be traveling to my son's today to celebrate with his family.  His mother-in-law came over from England this year so it'll be good to visit with her for a spell.  The kids will probably open their presents then disappear upstairs as usual.  I only get to see them a couple of times a year at most.  Guess I'm just that strange lady to them.
My sinuses are giving me fits again.  Wish the weather would make up its mind what it wants to do.  First it's warm, then it's cold, then warm, then cold, etc.  My head feels like it weighs a ton and I'm going to have to go buy a lot more tissue.
Hope y'all have recovered and are enjoying a peaceful day.  Now you can look forward to New Year.  A time when too many people drink too much.  Hopefully it'll be a better one than this was.
Y'all take care now.

Sunday, December 25, 2011

It's Christmas day and I hope all of you who celebrate it are having a good one.  Me, I celebrate something else that comes just a few days before.  Right now I'm getting some birthday gifts wrapped for January birthdays of the grandchildren.  Tomorrow I'll be going to my son's to celebrate this holiday with him and his family.  Hopefully my head won't feel like it's filled with cement.  This weather is raising absolute havoc with my sinuses.  I'm also getting some knitting done and laundry.
Think I'll take a nap since Cleo the cat decided that 6:00 a.m. was a good time for me to get up.  Y'all have a blessed day.

Wednesday, December 21, 2011

Won't be on tomorrow.  Family is coming up and we'll be celebrating Yule.  I have a bunch of cleaning to do and things to prepare food-wise so I'll just wish y'all a happy day.

Monday, December 19, 2011

Wow....four days off in a row.  Of course, not really, since I have baking, cleaning and delivery of goodies to do.  Must remember to get a burn permit on Wednesday for Thursday so we can have our fire to celebrate the return of the sun.  'scuse me a minute while I write a reminder on the calendar.  Done.
Cleo decided to let me sleep in this morning.  She didn't try to get me up until a little after 7.  Now if she would just continue.  I don't thing she's aware of any time change so she might think it's 8 instead.  Boy would that make me an old stayabed.
Guess I'd better get a move on.  Baking isn't going to do itself.  Y'all have a good day and just to cover all the bases......Merry Chrismahannukwanzaka.

Saturday, December 17, 2011

I'm sick of the music.  I'm sick of the hype.  So all I have to say today is......bah humbug!

Friday, December 16, 2011

Cleo has decided that she should be my alarm clock.  It wouldn't be a bad way to wake up except she wants me up an hour earlier than my usual time!  Plus she's being a little picky about her food.  That's going to have to change.  Well, I won't be working as much next month so I'll be home more and can maybe get her to change her ways.  I was looking at her colours more closely last night and the colouring reminds me of another cat I once had that I called Red.  The full name was Frederica (don't ask my why).  She was a sweet kitty but she developed feline leukemia and I had to have her euthanized.  Cleo is clear of that thank goodness.
Well it's onward and upward.  Y'all have a peaceful day and remember........love yourself, 'cause if you don't no one else can.

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

She who shall be renamed has been.  Her name is Cleo (as in Cleopatra).  When she wants to be attended to she lets you know.  Otherwise you can leave her alone, thank you very much.  Last night while I was in bed reading she decided that it was she who should have attention, not my book, so she settled on my chest in front of the book.  This morning she decided that I needed to have her on my lap while on the computer.  Now she is ignoring me.  Hence, Cleo.  One of these days I'll have a picture of her for you.  Right now I have much to do.  We're having our artists' Christmas party at the gallery today and I have stuff to prepare.  So y'all have a productive day and remember:  today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.

Friday, December 9, 2011

The she who shall be renamed kitty is still exploring the house.  Tiger went home with my daughter and I'm sure she'll be happier there.  My kitty did come up on the bed with me a couple of times last night.  But she still isn't willing to come to me yet when I try to entice her.  It looks like she may have eaten a little during the night.  When I leave today I'll put on some music for her to keep her company.  Will post a picture sometime in the future.
It's going to take a few days to come up with a name.  I want to see what kind of personality she has.  In the meantime I hope she gets used to the house and me quickly.
Y'all have a good day and.....enjoy you.

Thursday, December 8, 2011

Today is kitty day.  I went to the vet's to see them yesterday.  Tiger was definitely not a happy camper.  She hissed at us as we approached her temporary abode.  The kitty who shall be renamed came and let me pet her.  Tiger is older and perhaps set in her ways and may be going back with my daughter if she doesn't seem to fit in here.  I have set up a litter box and scratching thingy.  We'll see how they react once I get them home.
Unfortunately my daughter "forgot" to give me the cost estimate.  I got it yesterday and gulped (it's almost $1,000 for the two of them but I did board them for over a week...still....).  I think she can pay the next time she wants one fixed.  But at least all the females are now taken care of.
I'm off to do something, even if it's wrong.  Y'all take care and have an inexpensive day.

Tuesday, December 6, 2011

Had family here yesterday so I didn't take the time to post.  I finally got some lights on the tree and then went to WW.  When I got back I started making some meringues and K and grandson decorated the tree.  It didn't take much as the tree is quite small and skinny.  Sort of a Charlie Brown tree.
It's off to the gallery today.  A rainy day it is so I don't expect much traffic.  I'll be knitting, trying to get a scarf finished.  I've finished the shawl I was working on, just have to tuck in the ends and block it.  Hope the recipient likes it.
Thursday is kitty day.  Should prove interesting.  Daughter said that if Tiger doesn't fit in they'll take her back.  She'll be an outdoor kitty if she goes back.  I think she'll like being inside.  And, after a while, I'll let them out if they want to go.  Maybe they'll keep the tree rats off the porch!
Y'all have a gainful day and .... Exercise your right to be lazy.

Saturday, December 3, 2011

It's official....I have another cold, dammit.  And guess what?  I'll be spending the better part of the day outdoors!  Trust me, I'm going to layer, layer, layer.  And just to be on the safe side I'm taking something to use as a lap blanket.  If I don't make any money at the Christmas market I'm going to be greatly disappointed and will probably not do it again.  Geeeesh, of all times to have a cold.  I shoulda known.
At least the sun is shining today and the temps may go up into the high 40's low 50's.
Have a bunch to do before going to market so I'll just wish y'all a gorgeous day and......good health.

Friday, December 2, 2011

I heard from the vet that my two kitties are doing well.  They're going to board there until the stitches come out. Expensive but, since I'm not home much these days, they are better off recuperating there than here.  Besides, have you ever seen a cat with one of those cone shaped thingies on?  I'll be picking them up on the 8th.  I'm taking the day off so I can get to know them and them me.  Meanwhile I have to try to remember how to cat proof the house (yeah, right).  Also need to put up the tree and re-arrange furniture.

I've made one batch of meringues and will now continue every night to make at least one.  I'd post the recipe but then I'd have to kill you......just kidding.  I'll try to remember to post it AFTER the hols.   It's really simple, just time consuming.
Y'all have a reassuring day and......smile a lot.  It makes people wonder what you are up to.

Thursday, December 1, 2011

Dagnab it!  I think I'm coming down with a chest cold.  This bloody weather is the culprit.  One day it's warm, the next really cold.  You never know what to wear.  When I dress for cold it gets warm and vice-versa.  Geesh!!
Went down to the pond after helping a friend pull clay.  We had lunch at a local pharmacy that has a "cafe" and man, was it good.  Grilled cheese on sourdough bread and a root beer float.  Yum.  Yeah I know, not WW fare but I'm allowed once in a while.
Anyway, the pipe wasn't quite as blocked as I thought it might be.  Not as much mud and sticks on top.  It still needed clearing, though, 'cause there were a gazillion leaves hove up against the sides.  Although water was flowing through it wasn't enough so I sacrificed my right hand to the cold and cleared away the leaves, etc.  The flow of water increased greatly.  When I looked out my window this morning the water level looked to be where it's supposed to be.  I'm still going to have to go down there every few days even though I didn't see any more leaves on the surface of the water.  There's enough of a current to bring submerged ones to the crate.  Sigh.....
Well, it's off to the gallery after morning ablutions.  Y'all have a tremendous day and remember:  You're not aging....you're fermenting.

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

The sun shines and it might even get up into the 40's today.  I'll be going down to the pond after I get my hair trimmed this morning, not because I want to freeze my hands but because, after the tremendous rains we had I need to go down and clear the pipe......again.  I really need to come up with a plan to foil whatever critter is stacking mud and twigs on the cage around the pipe.  Maybe if I put in a wider and higher cage?  Around the cage that's already there?  Anyone have any ideas?
Since this is my one day off this week I guess I'll be looking for a tree and trying to figure out where to place furniture so I can put up the tree in my living room which is not that big especially when K and family are here and the "cage" is up for the curious 11-month old.  I'm thinking a small tree will do.  Can't have an artificial tree.  They make me itch something fierce.
Well, need to get going.  Lots to do.  Y'all have a wondermous day and remember:  Everything I say is fully substantiated by my own opinion.

Monday, November 28, 2011

What a rainstorm!!  Woke me up in the middle of the night.  It's still going strong.  I have streams in the driveway.  Hopefully it'll quit before days end so I can get down to the pond 'cause I know the pipe will need clearing.
My daughter K has a bunch of stray cats that she feeds.  One of them had kittens.  They are all used to being handled by humans.  When she first asked me if I would take a particular one I said no but when she said she planned on bringing it into the house if I refused I changed my mind.  She already has 4 cats in the house.  Come to find there were two she really didn't want to separate and they are both female so that is why they are at the vet's getting spayed and I'll have two kitties instead of just one.  Seing as how my other cats lived 17 years, these two just may outlive me......sigh.
Time to get a move on.  Y'all have a pleasing day and remember:  small businesses keep Americans employed so shop at small businesses.

Sunday, November 27, 2011

Going in today in hopes that there'll be some Sunday shoppers.  Had folks in yesterday (Yay) and actually had some sales.  We may or may not have a group coming in tomorrow from North Carolina.  A lady called during the week asking if we were going to have anyone demonstrating art on Monday.  Hope she comes through with the group.  Although I've been doing more knitting lately I'll switch to making jewelry since that's probably more interesting.  Watching someone knit can be somewhat boring I'm sure.  Besides the thumb on my left hand is letting me know I should be doing something different for a while.  I will have to continue the knitting in the near future since I am making gifts and want to get them finished.
Will be adding feline to the household in about a week.  Right now they are at the vet's and will be spayed (unless they test postive for fe-leuk and if so, well......).  I haven't had kitties in a while so I'm going to have to make some changes in the house as far as doors left open and those that need to be closed.  The kitties will keep their front claws and, since my grandson sleeps on an air mattress on the floor when he's here, the door to this room will have to remain closed.  If it isn't he may end up sleeping on a deflated mattress on the floor.
Guess that's enough rambling for today.  Y'all have a blessed day and remember:  Ignorance may be bliss but knowledge is power.

Friday, November 25, 2011

It was a nice quiet day yesterday.  Daughter did all the cooking and what a delicious meal it was!  I brought some leftovers home to enjoy it all over again.
Going to the gallery.  Looks like we're going to decorate for the holiday.  So glad we didn't start before Thanksgiving like so many other places.  I mean, really folks, can't you wait until AFTER Thanksgiving?  Driving along I've seen yard decorations out already (most of it tacky as all get out).  Christmas has become so commercial it isn't funny (and I don't even celebrate it).  And nowadays kids don't get a Christmas break from school.  Oh no, it's a winter break.  Give me a break.  It is CHRISTMAS.  Then, of course, there's Hannukah and Kwanza.  So I guess I'll just wish everyone a MerryChrismaHannuKwanzakah and get it over with.
And don't even get me started about this Black Friday crap.
Y'all have a fortunate day and remember:  not all is as it seems.

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

No sales at the gallery for four days in a row.  Ouch!!
Getting the catalytic converter replaced in the van today.
Getting gifts wrapped that have to be mailed.
Remembered to get the apple pie for tomorrow.
Wishing everyone who celebrates it a peaceful and plentiful Thanksgiving.

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

Ha!  Yule/Christmas shopping is done!  Neither the Evil Empire nor the malls will see me from now until after the New Year unless I absotively, posilutely need something they have that I can't get from a local small store.
Tomorrow I get the catalytic converter replaced on my faithful vehicle.  Won't be long now 'til it hits the 200K mile mark.  If I take good care of it will it get to 1 million?  I sure wish GM had continued to make it.  And it's amazing how many people keep looking for them.  I'm going to hang on to it as long as I can.
I'll hate to have to let it go.
It's warm again today.  Got up to at least 70 yesterday and is already in the low 60's.  Rain weather I'm thinking.  Maybe even a storm or two.
We're going to have the gallery open on Sundays between Thanksgiving and Christmas in hopes that the local folk will shop locally.  I don't know where y'all live but it sure would be nice if you supported your local businesses instead of the large chain stores.  Ace hardware is an excellent place to shop for the project person in your life and local galleries have some really beautiful pieces for that person who is hard to shop for.  Guess what I'm trying to say is "SHOP AMERICAN" folks
Y'all have a successful day and remember:  A government powerful enough to give you what you want is powerful enough to take everything you have.

Saturday, November 19, 2011

Today is the day that people are supposed to support small businesses within their respective communities.  We'll see how well the word has spread.  I've tried to do that all year.  As I said before the evil empire (Walmart) and the malls will not see me between Thanksgiving and New Year's day.  Wonder how much shopping will be done online?  Where do you shop?  Or do you hand/home make your gifts?
Y'all have a respectful day and remember:  Today is the new yesterday.

Friday, November 18, 2011

Yesterday at the gallery was fun.  There were three of us there and we had a great time chatting and "doing our thing".  While I knitted the others worked on their pottery.  We had a couple come in looking for gifts....yay.  Hopefully we get more.  It would seem that this year some people are trying to buy local (or at least American) and I hope it kicks the Asians in the ass.  Whatever happened to hand-made?
It's cold this morning.....28.  Looks like I'll have to put on the hand knit leg warmers I made.  As well as the cowl I knit (to keep head and neck warm).
Before you go out to the evil empire (Walmart) or any of the other big stores, consider going to your local gallery or shops and looking for gifts there.
Okay, I've had my say.  I will have to go to one or two stores to find something for grandchildren, but the adults will have to accept hand made.
Y'all have a gorgeous day and remember:  There's no place like home....and nothing as good as home or hand made.

Thursday, November 17, 2011

Sun is shining today and it's a little cooler than yesterday.  Yesterday was prime weather for tornados.  It was 71 degrees here for crying out loud!  Thunder storm came through and the wind was wicked.  Didn't know about the tornado warnings until I turned on the TV to watch a particular program.  Nothing  but weather and warnings.  I was down in the basement when the storm hit here.  All I heard was hard rain.  Glad no tornado went through here.
Had lunch with a friend.  Haven't seen her in a long time.  She used to live next door but sold and moved to another home after her husband died.  Apparently she had a breakdown not long ago but won't talk about it in public so the next time we have lunch it will either be here or her place.  Guess she needs to talk about it.  I think she needs to get out and socialize more.  I'm going to email her schedules of things she might be interested in....quilting, knitting and such groups.
Need to get some stuff done before going into the gallery so y'all have a loverly day.

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

Had a nice day off yesterday.  Went for a walk in the drizzle of rain before going to Quilt guild, then on to knitting.  Came home and tried to turn on the Wii so I could exercise....it wasn't going to cooperate.  Have to see if I can figure out what's going on.
It's raining again today but I'm going to try to get in another walk after lunch with a friend.  If I walk I'm getting SOME exercise at least.
Have to get some fabric washed so I can cut it into the sizes needed for one of the classes I'll be taking in February.  Yeah, I know, kinda early for that.  But if I can get that done then I can concentrate on the challenge.  I have some other projects I want to get done, also.
Y'all have an interesting day and as my daddy used to say....believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see.

Monday, November 14, 2011

Daughter and family have gone to NC to visit J's mother and grandmother.  And his sister and her family.  So there are 5 generations in one house.  Amazing.  Want to see pictures of that.
Luckily I didn't get any panic calls from them while they were on the road.  Not that I could have helped anyway.  Hope they enjoy the visit and get back safely.
Y'all have an uneventful Monday and remember:  Forgive your enemies, it messes up their heads.

Sunday, November 13, 2011

Friday evening and yesterday were family time.  Daughter and family came up and yesterday we went to have the childrens' pictures taken with the man dressed as Santa.  Daughter now has 2 DVD's of pictures from which to choose for her holiday cards.  Since they are going to NC to see J's mom, sister, and grandmother, they took the high chair and portable crib when they left.  J's grandmother has never seen the baby so it was a good time for them to go visit.  (Grandmother lives in TX and is visiting J's mom).
I think the Hermit is glad for this respite.
I'm off to the gallery today.  We're open only because it's the NE GA Arts Tour weekend and we're obliged to be.  We did have some business on Friday.  Don't know about yesterday but will find out since the lady who worked yesterday will be there today also.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  At least I'll get some more Christmas earrings made.
Y'all have a nice Sunday and remember:  the difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.....Albert Einstein

Tuesday, November 8, 2011

Feeling better this morning.  I have learned not to mix Sudafed with coffee.  I've never taken speed but I think I know what it feels like now.  Don't know how anyone could like feeling that way.  Spent the afternoon with friends at the gallery and that was really nice.  Think I caught a cold from the doctor's office air.  Either that or my sinuses are letting me know they don't appreciate this wacky temperature change we're having.  First it's cold, then it's warm.
Off to the gallery again today but first I have to stop and vote.  Important thing, voting.  Unfortunately too many people shrug their shoulders and don't, then wonder why they are unhappy with the results.  Hey, folks, if you don't vote you don't get to complain!
Tenacious tree rat has been coming up on the porch in the morning.  I chase it off with the BB pistol.  Haven't hit it yet but it stays away for a day or so then forgets and comes back.
Something keeps piling mud and sticks on the cage covering the overflow pipe.  Don't know if it's a beaver or maybe a raccoon.  I don't feel like staking out the place so will just have to keep clearing it.  I'm trying to come up with some kind of solution to the problem.  You know, some way to keep the critter from even getting to the cage.  Any ideas?
Y'all have a precious day and remember:  Can't complain, but still do.

Monday, November 7, 2011

I'm feeling out of sorts this morning.  Partly because of the time change and partly because I just have stuff running through my head, so to speak, that I don't like.  Much has to do with family.  I won't bother you with it.  Suffice it to say that I have some hard decisions to make and they undoubtedly won't be liked by those affected.
Since I really don't have anything nice to say I'll just wish y'all a good day.

Sunday, November 6, 2011

Soooo the time has been changed.  Wish "they" would leave it alone.  Older folk, babies, and animals don't adjust well.  How 'bout just splitting the difference and leaving it there?
Going to the evil empire today to stock up on coffee.  Will probably have to go again before Thanksgiving since I WILL NOT go there anytime between then and New Year's day.  Won't go to any of the malls either (not that I do anyway).  I don't deal with crowds and fools well and both places have plenty during that time.
I really don't even feel like doing any of the holidays.  Except for the grandchildren and immediate family.  I already have stuff bought, however, so I guess I'll at least do Yule and Christmas.  It seems the older I get the less enthusiastic I am about such things.  I usually shop during the year so I don't have to worry about it around the holidays.
Well, I guess I'll get a move on.  Lots to do today and I need to keep my mind off some family stuff going on.  Y'all have a pleasant Sunday and do what makes you happy.

Thursday, November 3, 2011

I hate to think what it's going to cost but I took my faithful van in yesterday for the 200,000 mile service.  Because it is paid for I try to make sure that I get it serviced on schedule so it will last me a long time.  I don't understand people who have to trade their vehicles in every few years for a newer model.  It usually means that their vehicles are never paid for and they have a monthly payment for the rest of their lives.  It's like paying rent....you have a place to live but you don't own it.
I'd love to get my property paid off as well as what credit cards I have.  I'm working diligently on the cc's.  As soon as two of them are paid off I'll carry them for about 6 months then cancel them.  It would be nice if I could live without any of them, but in order to buy things off the internet from stores we don't have here I have to use a credit card.  I tried a paypal account but that didn't work well for me.  Oh well.
Going to the dr's for my 3 month A1c check.  Hoping it's gone down.  Trying to lose weight and eat right is not easy, but I'm trying.  I am down about 10 pounds....the goal is 24.  It's slow and I have to have patience.
Y'all have a tremendous day and remember:  live.

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

Nights are still pretty chilly here.  High 30's low 40's.  Luckily the sun's been shining, warming it up nicely during the day.  Don't have much to say right now.  I kinda tired and feeling low.
Y'all have a pleasant evening and remember:  Love is all you need........except when you're broke.

Monday, October 31, 2011

Happy Samhain all.

Sunday, October 30, 2011

We have frost this morning.  It went down into the low 30's last night and the heat come on, even in my room.  I wouldn't be surprised if we had a long winter this year.  Like I said much earlier, the squirrels ate all the red berries off the dogwoods and they've never done that before.  Usually it's the birds that eat the berries.
Apparently there's a bear in the area.  The neighbors across from my pond said they saw one in their front yeard.  I won't be putting out any compost for a while.  I'd hate for a bear to take out my expensive deer fence.  Hopefully the bear will wander away and hibernate somewhere far away.
Going to the bead show this morning.  Need some beads for a certain style of earrings I'm making.  Could use some more ear wires, too.
Guess I'd better get a move on.  Y'all have a peaceful day and remember:  Do no argue with an idiot.  He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Saturday, October 29, 2011

The sun shines but it's chilly this morning.  Actually had to turn on the heat!  Going to the gallery.  Hope to get some ideas going.  This is the last weekend of the Octoberfest.  Hope we get some people in but doubt it.  They come for the beer and dancing.
Need to get some raking done.  Lots of leaves on the ground.  Not all but a great many and I'd like to get them raked to under the trees.  Great mulch, leaves.
The colors are at their peak.  Some russetts, some red, some yellow.  Not as vibrant as New England but lovely just the same.  Pretty soon the trees will be bare and winter will be upon us.
Y'all have a lovely fall day and .......

Friday, October 28, 2011

Mumble, grumble, grrrrr.....@#!% government.....ACORN.....anarchists.  The world is going to hell in a handbasket!!

Thursday, October 27, 2011

It often distresses me when I read that someone I follow is having stressful times.  I always wish I was able to do something about it.  Unfortunately I can't, but does wanting to count?

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

Had to take the van in yesterday morning to get some oil put in it.  The gauge was acting funny the night before.  I'm usually pretty prompt on getting an oil change when it's time but this time I was going to wait until I took it in for the major tune-up.  Wrong.  Next Wednesday I'll take it in and leave it, get a loaner, and have the 200K tune-up done.  I'm trying to keep it going and in good shape as long as possible.  May even have to hand it down to daughter who can't afford to have all the necessary work done on hers.
Speaking of whom....she's coming up today after the baby's checkup.  We're going winter clothes shopping for the kiddos.  At the thrift stores.  Kids grow so quickly why bother with all the fancy schmancy new expensive stuff?  We have a few second-hand stores in town so we'll check those out first.
If all else fails, there's always the few department stores we have in the area.
Daughter, in her blog, passed on a new word that won't be found in any dictionary.  I like it so will pass it on to you.....
Ineptocracy:  a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.
Y'all have a good day.

Monday, October 24, 2011

It's the start of another week.  Lots to do and not enough time in which to get everything accomplished.  I've received all the supplies I need to make earrings so that's a given when I'm at the gallery.  The pond needs work (as usual) but that will have to wait until Wednesday.  Once all the leaves are down I need to rake them under the trees for mulch.  Right now I need to get myself in gear so I can go walk my mile before WW.
I did get some laundry done yesterday while getting started on a quilting project.  Need to get that put away.  Daughter may come up today to get a couple of checks cashed (don't ask).  I told her the other day that I could not continue to be her wallet.  One of them needs to get a job.  I don't care what job.  I won't start the rant I had the other night when she called to tell me that the van had broken down in VA when J was on his way home.  It was towed to a Chevy dealership and, yes, I paid to get it fixed.  The rant was silent but one of these days it may not be.
Y'all have a perfect day and remember:  Money isn't everything but it sure keeps the kids in touch.

Sunday, October 23, 2011

I'm baaaaaack.  It was three long days of quilt expo.  I loved every minute.  Not only did I get to see some truly awesome quilts, spend money and make new acquaintances, I got to learn some new stuff.  I'll go back again next year both for the sewing expo and the quilting expo.  Granted I don't get paid in money.  I get paid in having fun while working.  I probably spent more than I should have but I did get some scrumptious fabric.  I did notice that attendance was down.  Unfortunately some of the classes had to be cancelled due to lack of participants.  Yeah, yeah, I know, it's due to the economy.  A number of volunteers cancelled, too, which put a burden on the rest of us.  Chickens.  It was a little nippy yesterday morning but it sure did warm up nicely.  So why did people cancel?
Because I live a distance away from the convention center I stayed at a hotel nearby.  That way I didn't have to get up at o'dark-thirty to get there on time.  I'll do the same next year.  Might stay at a different place, though.  The hotel I stayed at was just a bit noisy, being as my room faced the highway.  And the walls were just a bit thin.  I really don't enjoy listening to a man doing his business (which happened only once, but that was enough).  There's another hotel beside/behind this one which I will probably try next time.
There's probably a lot I should be doing today but I'm going to work on a quilting project for the exhibition our guild will be having at the botanical gardens in Athens, GA.
Y'all have a quiet day and......

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

I may be gone for a couple of days.  Depends on how much time I have to get on the computer.  I'll be working at the Quilt Expo at the Gwinnett Civic Center, which is outside Atlanta.  I'll be meeting lots of people, staying extra busy and, in my time off, probably spending too much money.  I have fabric to buy and who knows what else?  I'll have my miniMom computer with me but....
Y'all have a prodigious day and remember:  Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.

Monday, October 17, 2011

Got the pipe cleared down at the pond.  Don't know who/what piled the mud on it, but I'm sure glad there's a "cage" covering the top (otherwise the mud would have been down IN the pipe, totally clogging it and a bitch to clear).  It took a while to get it all cleared 'cause it was totally covered.  For whatever reason clearing it did help the back problem.  I further helped it by relaxing and mostly knitting the rest of the day.  Watched an outstanding program about the Galapagos islands.  Never knew there is a "hot" spot in the eastern Pacific ocean.  If it should come on again (National Geographic channel) it would be worth your time.
I believe the silt is building up on the bank of the pond.  The overflow pipe is much closer to the bank than it was before.  Will definitely have to do something about that either late fall or early spring.  It also looks like the carp are doing their job.  Of course it may all be an illusion but I could swear there are fewer lilypads in the pond and more in the mud pile around the pipe "cage".
Y'all have a perfect day and remember:  Whether you think you can or you think you can't....you're right.  (Henry Ford)

Sunday, October 16, 2011

A day off and I don't know that I'll get anything done around here.  I really need to go down to the pond and clear the pipe.  While exercising with the Wii yesterday I did something to my back, damn it, and now I hurt and all I want to do is stay in bed.  Can't.  Ever.  Too much to do and only me to do it.  The back will get better in a day or so.  It has to.  I'll get the pipe cleared and maybe one of the movements in doing so will put things right again.  It's happened before.
Y'all have a glorious day and make art, make a difference.

An appraiser is coming this morning.  I'm trying to get a small loan to pay off credit cards, etc.  It was supposed to happen Monday....I thought.  When the first appraiser called me I told her I was out of town and wouldn't be back until 10/8.  So...we decided on 10/10 at 10:00 a.m.  Apparently she showed up here on 10/7 at 10:00.  Guess what?  I wasn't here!  I waited for her on Monday....no show.  Kinda ticked me off.  Then I found out about the "mixup".  How do you make a 7 out of a 10?  Ah well, bad phone connection I guess even if we both agreed that 10/10 at 10 was easy to remember.
If I do get the loan the first card I'm paying off is Amex.  I'll keep the card for about 6 months then cancel it.  They messed with me and so I won't need them anymore.  The others I'll pay off then pay balance due every month.  Going to try to not use them much except for certain things.  I'll have only two that I'll use.  Everyone else gets cut up and trashed.
Why do we have to pay for our credit scores?  No, there is no such thing as free.  If you fall for that you deserve to pay.  I almost went for it.  I'm not going to pay 19.95 or some such for my "free credit score" when I can get my credit reports free every year.  You can get your free credit reports, yes, but have to pay to get the credit score.  I found out that even the banks have to pay.  Ridiculous.
Guess I'll get a move on.  Have things to do before the appraiser gets here 'cause I'll be going in to the gallery today.
Y'all have a thoughtful day and remember:  today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

I'm off to the evil empire (Walmart) for more coffee and maybe some other stuff today.  Sure wish we had a store to give W a run for its money.  Ah, well, life in the boonies.  I guess we should consider ourselves lucky although I'm sure there are many a small store that went out of business because of the evil empire.
Looks like rain again today.  A good day to get things done around the house, I suppose.  I think I'll get the minutes typed up from our landowners' meeting and get that out of the way.
Thought daughter and I would be heading towards the big city to look over some merchandise but that won't happen as the merchants are out of town (I think).  I tried calling to set up an appointment and the call I got back was so garbled that I couldn't understand a word.  I presumed that meant they were away and in a bad cell phone area.  I'll try again next week.  Need to get some things for daughter so she can make stuff over the winter to sell next year.
Y'all have a gracious day and:  PUBLIC NOTICE...Due to recent budget cuts, the rising cost of electricity, gas, and oil, plus the current state of the economy, the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off.

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

Another blustery fall day.  It's interesting how the same type trees turn color at different times.  I have three hickory trees.  One has turned, one is beginning, one is still green.
I'll be going into the gallery again today.  I have lots of shopping to do on the 'net so I'll be making a list and checking it twice.  Need lots of materials to make all the new stuff I learned at jewelry camp.
Looks like it's going to rain again.  Makes me want to sleep.  I had a nice long nap yesterday afternoon, then went to bed early and slept again.  I'm waking up early too, even if I don't go to bed early.  Must be because I was awakened by kitchen noises and scents at jewelry camp.  Gonna have to do something about that.  Since I don't have to go anywhere in particular tomorrow morning maybe I can sleep in.
Y'all have a whateverkindyouwant day and remember:  red meat is not bad for you.  Fuzzy green meat is bad for you.

Friday, October 7, 2011

I'm back from two weeks at jewelry camp.  My head is full of ideas and I'm exhausted.  It's early to bed for me tonight as I have to go in to the gallery tomorrow.  If I can re-figure out how to post pictures I'll try it another day.  For now, I bid you good evening.

A quiet Sunday

It's a quiet Sunday morning here at William Holland.  I'm thinking of passing the day doing some reading and knitting and just being quiet myself.  After spending the day at the Folk School yesterday I need the quiet.  The crowd there was almost too much.  I'm glad I knew one of the vendors 'cause at least I could visit with her for awhile and avoid the crush.  It's almost as if there were too many vendors there (at least 200) with many of them duplicates of others....pottery, basket weaving, spinning, soap.  Very few originals.  The pottery was nice but most of it looked like it came off a production line.  Only one basket maker had any kind of original design.  I'm glad I went, though.  Now I have a nice new belt to hold up the jeans that are beginning to get just a little big around the waist (yay!).  And I have some nice bath salts for that long soak in the tub.
Y'all have a nice quiet Sunday.

Saturday, October 1, 2011

One down, one to go.

I have finished the first week at William Holland.  Whew!  I actually was able to cut three stones....an aquamarine, an amethyst and ......a tanzanite.  The last was a real bugger as the stone is soft and easily overcut.  The last is really special, too, since the instructor did not charge me for it.  I don't know what the original weight was (probably about 3/4 - 1 carat) but it ended up at .56 carats.  I finished it just as she was ready to pack everything up and call it quits for the week.  I really was afraid I wouldn't get it done and would have to look at my failure.  On the upside, of course, was the fact that most beginning classes only get one stone cut.  And most beginning classes work with marbles of CZ's.  Our instructor believes you should work on the real thing right from the beginning.
Although I know I won't be continuing to cut stones I'm glad for the experience because now I can look at a loose stone and know how well it was cut.  Also I can now understand the cutting diagrams without going "HuH?".
This next week I'll be learning more chain maille.  I'm looking forward to it.
The weather is beautiful and I'll be going to the John C. Campbell Folk School fall festival today.  A great way to pass the time.
Y'all have a good Saturday and remember:  Stupidity kills...but not often enough.

Monday, September 26, 2011

Well here I am at the William Holland School of Lapidary Arts.  Class begins shortly and I can already tell, from last night's intro., that it's going to be fairly intense.  So if you don't hear from me for the next few days it's because my brain hurts from having to concentrate so hard.
Y'all have a great day and remember:  (insert your own saying here).

Saturday, September 24, 2011

Only one more day before I get to learn new stuff.  I'm looking forward to getting away and getting new ideas.  Don't know if I'll have time to write while I'm away but I will if I have time. (Not that what I have to say is all that interesting but it gives me the oppotunity to get things out.)
Wrote a letter to the editor of our local newspaper.  I put the wrong first name in on the candidate whose campaign sign should have been removed three years ago.  Wonder if anyone will notice?  Going to write an "oops" letter and send it in.  Should be good for some giggles.
Y'all have an interesting day and remember:  A fool and his money can throw one heck of a party.

Thursday, September 22, 2011

It's raining this morning.  I had to get up a little earlier than usual since I'm getting my hair trimmed before going in to the gallery.  Actually I didn't HAVE to get up earlier but did since I wanted to get on the 'puter and check up on friends before going out.
Did get much except laundry done yesterday.  I felt lazy.  Must have been the weather.  I don't mind the rain so much as the gray.  That makes me want to lie down and sleep the day away.
Only two more days to go before I'm off to two weeks of classes which will hopefully give me some inspiration.  My creative juices have dried up and I'm at a standstill as far as jewelry-making is concerned.  So I'm knitting instead.  Anyone need a scarf?
Y'all have a darned nice day and remember:  don't drink and drive.  You might hit a bump and spill something.

Gray day

It's a gray day.  Rain off and on yesterday, then again last night.  I was going down to the pond today but will put it off until Sunday, just before I leave.
Will be meeting daughter today to give her my contribution to the workers for the Petit LeMans.  Every year I buy ear plugs and candy.  The ear plugs aren't so much for the workers themselves, although they are welcome to use them of course but, rather, to hand out to stupid parents whose children are in agony over the loud noise of the cars.  I wish, too, there was a way to help the dogs (which aren't supposed to be there in the first place) since they suffer also.  Some people are just plain stupid.
Y'all have a glorious day and remember:  If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Quiet

It was quiet when the family left.  Nice but not.  I took a nap after walking my mile in the park then going to the book exchange.
It's weigh-in day then on to the dentist's for teeth cleaning.  Oh joy.  Can't complain.  At least the teeth are still mine.
Would really like to crawl back into bed but my innards won't let me.  Immodium is my best friend.
Y'all have a good Monday and remember:  Ninety-nine percent of all lawyers give the rest a bad name...

Friday, September 16, 2011

It's been a few days.  Haven't had anything to say, really.
Family coming up this evening.  Daughter and granddaughter taking part in our wearable art fashion luncheon tomorrow so the boys will hang here at the house.  I'll be holding down the "fort" (gallery) while some of our artists show off wearable art which will hopefully sell.
Looking a bit gray out there.  It's a lot cooler.  Yard got mowed, maybe for the next to last time, yesterday.  Glad it's cooled down some.  Have a feeling we're in for a bad winter.  Have never seen the squirrels grab all the berries off the dogwoods before.  Usually it's the birds that get them and then later in the year.  Think I'll start stocking up on things that can be made into uncooked meals.  We've had some mean ice storms in the past and I really don't want to be caught without.  I am glad I have fireplaces as well as a wood stove (in the basement).  Now all I have to do is stock up on some wood.  Experimented with a Weight Watcher recipe for Angel Food cupcakes.  One package of Angel Food cake mix and a 16 oz can of crushed pineapple in juice.  Overcooked them as we were told to follow the directions on the package.  They were still good, though.  Can't eat 'em, I've discovered.  My innards don't like the pineapple.  Diverticulosis sucks.
With that said, y'all have a delightful day and remember:  We are born naked, wet and hungry.  Then things get worse.

Monday, September 12, 2011

Not much to say these days.  Just trudging along.  Loving the cooler weather (which won't last).  It's already climbing up into the mid-80's.  Yeah, yeah, that's really cool weather to some of you folks.  I just hope it doesn't get back up into the high 90's.
Hope I have maintained or lost these last two weeks.  No meeting last week due to holiday.  I'll find out in a couple of hours.  I do know that my jeans aren't fitting right.  I'm at a 12 right now and if I go down to a 10 I will be one happy camper and won't complain about having to buy new clothes.
My sister called to tell me that she won't be able to go on the cruise next February due to unexpected very large repair expenses on property and auto.  I told her to think about 2013 and to save her dollar bills and change.  Amazing how quickly they add up.  That's what I do for my spending money.
Sort of at 6's and 7's right now.  Looking forward to my time at the Lapidary School where I hope to be infused with some new ideas.  My creativity seems to have taken a vacation.  Kinda like my metabolism only the metabolism decided it wanted to go permanently, I think.
Y'all have a great one and consider:  We have enough youth.  How about a fountain of "smart"?

Sunday, September 11, 2011

I haven't posted in a few days.  I didn't have anything to say, really.  There are so many people who have commented on 9/11 that I'm not going to, except to agree:  NEVER FORGET.
I spent yesterday morning paying bills before heading out to the gallery.  Oh joy.  Will pay more today.
The weather has been gorgeous!  Clear blue skies, a slight breeze, cool enough to open windows to air out the house.  Great sleeping weather.
Y'all have a thoughtful day and remember:  he who trades freedom for safety has neither.

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

Well, we're getting the rain we've needed so much.  Lots and lots of rain.  It rained really hard last night.  I'm suprised I don't have chasms in my driveway.  The hard rain was preceded by a gentle ground soaking rain so maybe that helped.  We'll be getting more today.  I hope that it doesn't hinder daughter's drive home from Ohio.  The lights on the trailer don't work so she may get stopped a few times.  Just so long as she and family arrive home safe.
Y'all have the kind of day you want and remember:  live.

Monday, September 5, 2011

Thought I was going in to the gallery today but was told that we would be closed due to the tuber crowd (who don't come in at all).  Well, it's raining, so I don't think there'll be any tubers today even though they'd be getting wet anyway.  Maybe later I'll take a ride to a friend's studio.  She and her husband work with glass.  I'd like to see what their studio and gallery look like.  It isn't far.
I looked at the pictures of the grape stomping.  Meh.  Won't bother posting anything.  Boring.
Am glad for the rain.  As long as there isn't a great wind to go along with it we may not lose any trees.  It's been dry so long I'm afraid that the weight of the water might just tip some over.  The rain started out gently, which is good, so maybe there won't be a great runoff, and the rain will just soak into the ground.  It's supposed to rain all day today and tomorrow.  We'll see.  Any rain we get right now is welcome.  I know folks who are gathering together today for bbq's may be unhappy but.....
At any rate, y'all have a good day and remember:  work is a four-letter word.

Sunday, September 4, 2011

Yesterday was long and hot.  And people just weren't buying.  I'm the only one out of the six of us participating that sold anything.  While I'm glad I sold some things I'm disappointed that none of the beautiful pieces others had in the booth sold.  We all pretty much geared our pieces to a wine theme thinking that, since it was a wine festival, people would buy.  Nope.  Now we will try to sell all this stuff in the gallery.  Sometimes I wonder why we bother.  But the gallery keeps me going.  Not only can I go "play", but I'm also with friends instead of being alone here.  Not a good thing being alone all the time, even if there are a gazillion things that can keep me busy here.
It's supposed to rain for the next couple of days.  We need it.  Hope it isn't a continuous downpour but rather a gentle ground soaking rain.  In many places the earth is so dry it's cracked.  A pounding rain would just run off the surface.
Back to the wine festival.  I did  get some pictures of the "grape stomping".  Not as picturesque as I believed it would be.  There might have been all of 2 to 4 inches of grapes in the tub.  Those that did stomp seemed to enjoy the experience though.  I'll check the pictures to see if any of them are any good.  No, I didn't participate.  I had hoped for more juice flying but I guess the winery didn't want purple people wandering around.  Oh well.
Y'all have a peace filled day today and tomorrow.

Saturday, September 3, 2011

Gonna have to be quick this morning.  Lots to do before going to the wine festival.  We got the EZ-ups and tables up yesterday evening.  All the other stuff has to be hauled over there this morning so we can get the displays set up, vehicles parked, catch our breath and check out the competition.  Hope to get some good pictures of the stompers.  There's going to be music, too.
So, y'all have a fabulous day and rest of the weekend and..... smile.

Friday, September 2, 2011

The days are definitely getting shorter.  My usual wake up time was when the sun was coming up.  Now it's an hour later and the sun still isn't up.  Wish the PTB would leave things alone.  How 'bout putting the clock in between the hour's difference and leaving it alone?!  Older people and babies don't know the difference and have a hard time adjusting to the time change.
Will be getting everything together today for the Wine Festival.  Hope to get some pictures of the grape stomping tomorrow.  If I get one or two really good ones I'll try to post them.
Probably won't be here tomorrow since we need to get to the vineyard somewhat early to finish setting up.  The festival goes until 7:00 and I know I'm gonna be tired.  Luckily Sunday is a day off.
Y'all have a decent day.....rain to those who need it and sun and drying time to those who got too much rain.

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

Hmmmmm

Hmmmm, it's Wednesday.  Sometimes referred to as hump day.  Wonder who came up with that term.  Daughter should be well on her way to Ohio for the holiday weekend.  I'm still trying to get ready for the Yonah Mountain Winery Crush Festival.  Mainly have to get pricing done, everything I'm going to make is made and I hope I sell it all.  Doubt it, but one can hope.
Going to the tax office today to try to get a handle on what's going on with a couple of properties here in our little community.  One of our residents passed on and now I don't know who owns the property or if she even had a will.  The other is a question of exactly what one person owns.  I need to see the tax map.  Would be great if I could get a copy of the plat for the whole community.  Then I could mark who owns what.
Squirrels have started early eating the berries on the dogwood trees.  They usually don't start until much later, during the fall.  Haven't seen birds eating them yet, though.  It's been pretty dry here.  Even the deer are coming out further from the woods to knosh.  Later in the morning, too.
Y'all have an interesting day and remember:  He who hesitates sometimes misses the bus.

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

Lots to do.  Usually this is a day off from the gallery.  I need to go in, though, since there are people who actually want to buy something from my daughter and I need to get the money to her before she leaves for Ohio.  Have some things to do here first before I go in.  Other than that I'm still getting stuff ready for the Crush Festival.  Hope I get to watch people crushing the grapes.
Y'all have a grateful day and remember:  we are not in charge.....but we should be.

Saturday, August 27, 2011

It's a day.  Like any other day.  But not for some.  Everyone on the East coast is talking about Irene.  I've been through a few in my lifetime.  I've gone down to the beach to watch the waves and stand in the wind.  A storm like that awakens something primal.  I want to be one with the wind and the sea.  I feel the power surging within.  Then it's gone.  Turned off like a light.  It's been a long time.
For those in her path.....be cautious and safe.

Y'all have an interesting day and remember:  We are of the earth and she is in charge.

Missing

Have been missing some blogs lately.  Their people haven't been posting.  Other things on their minds, I reckon.  And some I can't get to.  I'll click on the one I want to read and the page header will come up and say the page is not available.  What's with that?  And then I can read that same blogger's next post but still not the one I was denied.....sigh.
It's been a strange week.  I did find a place that will replace the catalytic converter for under $400.00.  No, it's not a GM but so what?!  Found out when the dealer has to replace it the whole shootin' match has to be replaced....converter, tail pipe, muffler, etc.  Geez.  Anyway, I'll be getting it replaced first part of next week.  Wonder if it was ethanol that messed up its innards?
I still haven't heard a word from Exxon or Shell.  Don't reckon I will.  Would love an explanation as to why it is deemed necessary to add that crap to gasoline.  Anyone out there have a reasonable explanation?  Not just parroting the EPA or whichever government arm decided to help the farmers? (and repair shops who have to deal with the effects on lawnmowers, weed eaters, not to mention auto engines, etc.)
Time to get a move on.  Y'all have a whatever day.

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Haven't felt like posting anything these last couple of days.  Actually I think I slept almost all day Tuesday and got nothing done.  Had to take the van BACK to the dealership yesterday and learned that now the catalytic converter needs to be replaced to the tune of $1,400 (according to them).  I did a little research and found one for under $200.00.  It may not be GM brand but it's new and apparently compatible.  I'm going to call the service department today and tell them about the web site.  How on this earth can a part cost so much?  Just because it's made by GM?  Don't think so!!!  Yeah, yeah, the GM one is guaranteed to last while they can't guarantee the non-GM brand.  I think I'll take my chances.  Since I'm supporting two families at this time I have to watch the pennies, nickels and dimes.  And one can't help but wonder why something new goes wrong not long after one's vehicle has been serviced.  I like the people in the service department, but not that much!
With that I'll say good day.

Monday, August 22, 2011

Family is here so I'm taking the day off.  Y'all have a good 'un.

Sunday, August 21, 2011

Going to a bead show today.  Don't know if I'll buy anything, but you never know.  Daughter is coming up sometime today or this evening.  Hope to get some things done since they'll be here all day tomorrow (I hope).  Want to get some more embroidery done, too.  Also have some earrings to make.
Y'all have a peaceful day and think about this.....What if the light at the end of the tunnel is really an oncoming train?

Saturday, August 20, 2011

I'm tired

I'm tired.
Of everything.
I don't want to have to care.....about anything.
I'm just so tired.

Friday, August 19, 2011

Nothin' in particular

Had all of two people come into the gallery yesterday and they didn't buy anything.  It was, unfortunately, a very boring day.
We had some rain here last night.  Guess I'll check the "garden" and see if there are any more okra to pick and see if the squash has gotten to the picking stage.
Going into the gallery today.  Gonna have my picture taken (I hate it) so the director can write an article about me for a local tourist mag for December.  Another artist is being featured in October.  Have to remember to take in my Christmas earrings.
The figs are figgin'.  I don't have the wherewithal to make anything out of them so I'm giving them away.  'Course there's nothing like eating them fresh.
Took the van back to the dealership yesterday morning.  There was nothing wrong with my headlights.  Sigh....a wasted trip but better safe than sorry.
Y'all have a gorgeous day and ... never understimate the power of a hissie fit.

Thursday, August 18, 2011

My mind is a blank this morning.  Or rather too much running around in it to be cohesive.  Ergo, nothing.
Y'all have a better day and remember:  if you don't speak up, no one can hear you.

Carp

No not the fish.  Another way to say crap.  I did get the van back yesterday morning only to find out yesterday afternoon, thanks to a neighbor, that one of my headlights is out.  Soooo, first thing tomorrow morning I'll be back at the dealer's to have them replace it.  In the meanwhile I'll try not to have to drive in the dark.  Guess I really can't complain.  The van has 190,000 miles on it so having anything last this long is a bonus.
Not sure what's on the agenda today.  May be going to look at some merchandise for daughter to make clothing from and sell and am definitely going to Jo-Ann's.  I need some stuff so I can get more towels embroidered for the wine festival.
While I don't expect to hear anything back, I wrote to both Exxon and Shell to inquire why on earth they put ethanol in their fuel.  Most people I know that have any kind of yard equipment are having to take their equipment to get it repaired constantly because of all the carp the ethanol creates in the engines.  Not only that but it certainly doesn't help mileage.  I don't get the mileage I used to and, no, it isn't because my van is getting on in years.  My van is in great shape mechanically.  I take it to get it serviced on schedule.
Looks like it might rain today....hope so.  Y'all have a wondermous day and remember....life is a four-letter word.

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

I still don't have my wonderful van back yet.  Sigh.  I'm told it should be ready some time this morning.  God, I hope so.  The car I've been loaned is okay but I'm glad I don't own it.  While driving I'm sitting so low I think my arse is going to drag on the ground.  I can't see the front of the car so when I park I'm just guessing.  The seat is situated such that my arms are straight while driving but my knees almost hit the dash board.  Luckily no one has had to ride in the back seat because their knees would be up under their chins.  I want my van back!!!

This is to my daughter:  I love you.  You are not worthless, you are priceless (both in worth and humor).  My life would be totally empty without you.  I wish you could be living here with me, 'cause your company and, quite often, wisdom and humor would help me through some long days.  I love you.

Y'all have a _______________ day (you fill in the blank).  I'm off.....

Odds and ends

Monday....another day off.  WW meeting today.  Wonder if I've lost any more?  Need to finish a charity quilt today so I can take it to guild tomorrow.  Need to get to JoAnn's to get some more water soluble stabilizer so I can get some more embroidery done for the wine festival.  Just found out an acquaintance has a couple of masses on a lung.....damn.  Made her a pocket prayer shawl.  Will give it to her when I next see her.  Daughter, et al, may be coming up today.  Finally got the grass mowed.  Paid my neighbor to do it.  He did a good job.  Will have J cut the grass in the enclosed garden space then see if we can't get a tarp down to kill off what's there so we can put in a raised bed.  Or some such.  Starting to figure out my new phone but still stumbling with it.  Will ask daughter to show me stuff since she has one similar.  I do much better with someone showing me how rather than trying to follow written directions.  Reckon I'll go ahead and start the day.....y'all have a nice one and remember....we never really grow up, we just learn how to act in public.

Sunday, August 14, 2011

Did I tell you I have a new phone?  It's going to take me weeks to figure it out.  It's one of those newfangled ones...a Blackberry.  It's kinda cool even if it is somewhat complicated.
When I picked up my new phone I ran into a problem with my van.  Just didn't have any get up and go.  Sounded like it wasn't firing on all cylinders.  I made it to the dealership.  The distributor rotor was shot but that wasn't the main problem.  It involves an injector and they are expensive.  Seems one of them didn't want to inject anymore.  I blame it on the ethanol that's being put in gasoline.  It does not, as touted, increase gas mileage or efficiency.  Instead it gunks things up and at  $400+ for an injector I wish they'd quit putting it in the gas.  More than one person has complained about ethanol to me.  Especially those who use landscaping equipment.  I'd go on about it more but it wouldn't do any good.  Maybe if we all wrote letters to the oil companies?  the government?  Nah, they won't listen.  I'm going to check into a product that supposedly keeps the stuff from gunking up engine parts.
I have time on my side today so I'm off to get some things accomplished, including learning more about my phone.  Did I tell you that I can even hook it up to my computer?  What will they think of next.
Y'all have a peaceful kinda day and remember.....it's never right to do wrong.

New phone

I'm going to make this short 'cause I need to get acquainted with my new phone.  The one I bought three weeks ago was defective so I exchanged it and upgraded at the same time.  There's going to be a learning curve here and I want to take enough time to know what I'm doing.  Right now I don't even know how to answer the damn thing.
So y'all have a good weekend and remember.....it's never wrong to do right.

It's Friday

It's Friday.  For most folks it means the last day of work before getting a couple of days off.  It really doesn't mean anything to me since I don't have a regular job (I'm retired, thank you).  I volunteer at the gallery at least 4 days a week, Saturday being one of those days.  I am beginning to think that 4 days is quite enough.
Need to get going a little early this morning.  Have to go to the pharmacy and pick up a 'script.  Since it has to be refrigerated I'll need to stop at home before going on to the gallery.
Going to get another phone this afternoon.  The one I just bought doesn't work properly.  Apparently it's a software problem that can't be fixed.  I'm thinking of upgrading.....maybe.  I mean, a phone is a phone is a phone, right?  Unless, of course, you can access the internet, send emails, play games, play music, etc.......oh, and make phone calls when you aren't doing all that other stuff.
So...y'all have a magic day and know this.....if you met my family you'd understand.

Thursday, August 11, 2011

Gonna be another hot dry day I guess.  Not as bad as west of here but bad enough just the same.
Did a lot of sewing yesterday.  Stayed cool in my basement.  Trying to get ready for one of the vineyards' festivals coming on Labor Day weekend.  It's had lots of advertisement so we'll see how many come what with the "economy" and all.  I do believe that if people weren't overly bombarded with doom and gloom news that the whole situation would not be as bad.   What I'm going to be selling will be priced very reasonably and, of course, wine related.
Going to the gallery today.  I'm taking two jewelry related supply catalogs to look through to see if there's anything I might be able to use.  Or just make a wish list.
Saw three mama deer and 6 babies in the front yard munching away.  Tried to quietly go out on the front porch to get a picture but they spooked.  Guess there isn't that much for them to eat in the woods if they are coming out and getting close to the house.
Need to get a move on.  Y'all have a delicious day and stay cool.

Another hot one

Although the temperatures here aren't nearly as brutal as those in TX, they are still brutal.  Especially with the humidity.  All I have to do is walk outside and I start to sweat buckets.  We've had a bit of rain but that hasn't even put a dent in what we really need so I can imagine what it must be like out west.  Ben in Texas shows the forecast each day and they are working on over 40 days now with temps in the 100's.  Yikes!  And no rain!  The cracks in the ground must be almost as big as the Grand Canyon.  Wonder if a rain dance would do them any good?
This is a day off from the gallery so I'm going to get going and get something done even if it's wrong.
Y'all have the kind of day you want and remember...Politicians are wonderful people as long as they stay away from things they don't understand, such as working for a living...P.J. O'Rourke

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

Saw something interesting yesterday.   Was down at the pond clearing the muck from around the overflow pipe when I looked out over the pond and saw a string of small bubbles.  The bubbles were moving ever closer to the lily pads, then went under and through until they were at the edge closest to me.  I then saw some lily pads dip.  Then a few more.  Seems the carp are doing their job.  Every time I clear the muck around the pipe there are more lily pads and stems in it.  Cool!!  I'll go down to the pond every day if necessary as long as they keep at it.  By this time next year I just might have a clear pond.

Please explain to me why we keep sending money we don't have to countries that hate us?

Gonna pick figs this afternoon.  Fig jam anyone?

Y'all have a fruitful day and  ...  Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases:  If it moves, tax it.  If it keeps moving regulate it.  And if it stops moving, subsidize it.....Ronald Reagan

Monday, August 8, 2011

Going to WW today.  Will see if I've done any good with the little excerising I do and what I ate (trying to stay within the points allotted).
Son came up to visit yesterday.  He took me out for lunch at one of the local eateries.  It was a very nice visit and I wish there were more of them.  The rest of his family are still in England.  They'll be coming back early next month.  Hoping he'll get another visit in before then.
Two more okra!  There'll be more tomorrow.  They're all going in the freezer.  The figs are about ready to pick.  I'll check them out tomorrow and pick any that are ripe.  There were a few the other day, but not enough to bother with.  When they come in there'll be a LOT.
Y'all have a decent day and.....the mistake a lot of politicians make is in forgetting they've been appointed and thinking they've been anointed.....Claude D. Pepper

Sunday, August 7, 2011

Someone tried to use one of my credit cards night before last.  The credit card company was on it like fleas on a dog.  Not only did I get an email from them I also received a phone call from their fraud department.  I don't make purchases on the net in the middle of the night.  Outcome?  Apparently said purchase was denied and I'll be getting a new card.  Don't know where the person got the account number.  Don't even know what the person was attempting to purchase.  I just know that I'm glad the credit card company is paying attention.  Hope they catch the SOB.
It's pretty cloudy out there right now.  Maybe it'll rain.  We need more that we've received.
Picked two more okra yesterday morning.  There'll be even more in a couple of days.  A couple of squash have appeared.  I know it doesn't sound like much but, considering my gardening luck, it's really something.
'Scuse me while I go shoot at a tree rat, I mean squirrel.
The pepper plant on the back porch looks healthy and the ones on the front porch may survive.  I'm not very good at growing veggies.  Plants that thrive on benign neglect are the ones that do well.
Okay, gonna get a move on and do something, even it it's wrong.  Y'all have a glorious day and remember:  Democracy becomes a government of bullies tempered by editors....Ralph Waldo Emerson

Saturday, August 6, 2011

Yay, it rained yesterday evening.  As I was driving home I didn't get rain until I turned off the main road.  Saw a lovely rainbow (the sun was out, too).  Rained all the way home...with the sun shining brightly!  May rain again today.  Wouldn't hurt my feelings at all.
Wishing to all those who need it as well as cooler temperatures.
Y'all have a nice Saturday and.....

Friday, August 5, 2011

Had absolutely no inspiration yesterday at the gallery.  Instead, Patti and I cleaned the front windows, then I sat and knitted for the rest of the day, sorta.  It's difficult to get inspired when nobody comes in, even if it's just to look around.
Wednesday when we went to the evil empire daughter found fabric with grapes on it.  I bought some so she could make some cool ties* for the wine festival coming up on Labor Day weekend.  I'll have others without the grape theme because not everyone is into grapes.
Will be back at the gallery again today.  Hopefully, since it's Friday, we have people coming in.  At least when they do come in they get to cool off.  Sure glad I don't have to work outside.
Y'all have a comfortable day and remember:  If nothing ever changed, there'd be no butterflies.

*Cool ties are these fabric things filled with beads that soak up water that you wrap around your neck to stay cool.

Thursday, August 4, 2011

Family was here yesterday so I didn't get on the 'puter.  Unfortunately it was wayyyyy to hot to do anything outside.  I watered the garden in early morning and still was wet with sweat when I came into the house.  'Course I'd gone down to the pond to clear the pipe, too.  I swear there are animals piling junk on top of the cage around the pipe.  There was mud and sticks all around and on top of it blocking the water.  It may be, too, that the carp are doing their job as there were a lot of water lily tops and stems mixed in with the mud.
Unfortunately family seemed to have colds...except for grandson.  LOL I'm gonna have to get a new supply of tissues.  Hopefully they'll get over it soon, 'specially the little one.  She really did have a snotty nose.
Gonna get a move on as I'm going to the gallery today.  It was nice to have some time off.  Y'all have a gracious day and remember....there is always something to be thankful for.

Tuesday, August 2, 2011

Need to bug out of here earlier than usual.  Going to pick up Jaymi and my daughter so we can go down to the place that sells display paraphernalia.  Had a good day yesterday.  For the week, I lost 2.2 pounds.  Whoopee!  Let's see if I can lose more or at least keep the 2.2 off.
Y'all have a dandy day.  I wish rain to those who need it the most as well as cooler temperatures where it's the hottest.

Monday, August 1, 2011

I just entered my first contest here in the blue nowhere.  SciFichick has one going on until the 18th of this month and you can enter at http://baconandeggs-scifichick.blogspot.com .  She has some awesome prizes.
Actually got some things done yesterday.  Did some cleaning downstairs, two loads of laundry, two towels embroidered, grocery shopping done.  Played two games of tennis and bowling on the Wii as well as one session of training.  My Wii age is 29!  How 'bout that?!  'Course that could change any day.  I have found that I bowl better with my left hand than my right.  Tennis could be either.  I lost one game and won the second.  With the training session you go through bowling, tennis and baseball.  I sucked at hitting the ball.  Will need to practice more.  By golly these games get you moving, though.
Saw a doe and two fawns yesterday morning.  The fawns were gamboling about having a great time while mom watched.
Lots to do today.  WW meeting at noon.  Wonder if I've lost a pound or two.  Would be great incentive if I have.
Y'all have a lovely day even if it is Monday and remember:  A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both....D.D. Eisenhower

time

I have these next 4 days off.  Wow.  I have so much to do it's hard to think about where to start.  Cleaning and laundry first, I think.  Then some serious grocery shopping.  I have embroidery I want to get done for an upcoming wine festival and need to get some work done down at the pond and.....
Whew!  Just thinking about it makes me tired.  If there weren't so many lily pads in the pond I'd go for a swim.  Just hope those carp do their thing next spring and get rid of the those pesky pads.
I'm happy that my basement is as cool as it is.  The only time I kick on the AC is when I want to get rid of some of the moisture in the air.  I could run the dehumidifier I suppose but it eats electricity like you wouldn't believe.
Y'all have a restful day and ......do what makes you happy.

Saturday, July 30, 2011

Ouch...I have muscles where I didn't know I had muscles.  I gave myself a rest yesterday and maybe shouldn't have.  I was at the gallery all day and, since it was knit night, I skipped the exercise.  My muscles have had a chance to tell me they are NOT happy with me.  I shall persevere, however, and exercise tonight.
So far I'm doing okay with WW.  It sure does wake you up, though, when you keep track of what you eat to understand that not all "healthy" eating is healthy.  I'm going to go to the market tonight to buy lots of good stuff to snack on so I don't get hungry in between meals.  I also need to stock up on veggies and maybe chicken and fish.
Enough about diet.  It's Saturday, the last day of the sale at the gallery.  So far I'm disappointed.  It may be the heat that has kept people from coming out to do anything but go tubing on the river, or it may be the fear mongering the government seems to be so good at.  Either way we are suffering for it.
Y'all have a pleasing day....wishing rain to those who need it the most.
Remember:  Every mother is a working mother.

Friday, July 29, 2011

The last couple of nights I've been using the Wii playing tennis and bowling.  Boy can I feel it!  Especially in the gluts.  You see, I don't just stand there moving my arm....I put the whole body into it, moving as if I were really doing those things.  I mean, what's the use if you just stand there?  I'll be playing baseball pretty soon along with the others.  Want to get the body used to exercise.  Have been doing pretty well with the WW thing.  It's going to take some getting used to.  I find one of the hardest things is remembering to write down what I eat and how many points it is.
Hey, it's Friday....y'all have a good day and weekend and......dance..it'll lift your spirits!

Thursday, July 28, 2011

Went to bed really EARLY last night since I didn't get enough sleep the night before.  It wasn't even dark out yet!  Read a couple of chapters in the latest book, turned out the light and, wham, I was GONE.  Slept until 7:30 this morning with only one interruption from Mother Nature.
Guess I was tired or something.
Going to the gallery this morning.  Think I'll make some more wine glass charms, this time out of copper.
Y'all have the kind of day you like and remember:  Everything is connected.

Wednesday, July 27, 2011

The power went out at 4:30 this morning.  How do I know?.  I was awake for one thing...Mother Nature calling.  Also the fan went off, then on again, off, on, off.  I figured it was a tree or some heavy limbs on a line somewhere close.  Luckily I had the number for the power company handy so I gave them a call.  Automated system don't you know.  I waited a while, then a truck drove in my driveway apparently looking for where the problem was.  Not long after he left I heard a chainsaw.  Shortly the power came back on.  I tried to go back to sleep to no avail.  Just lay in bed dozing, knowing I would have to get up soon.  I have to give my power company (HEMC) credit for the fast response.   Don't know if it was a tree here in my little community but it wouldn't surprise me.  Most of the folks are just plain ignorant when it comes to that sort of thing.  It's why I have underground lines.  If the neighbors would keep an eye out on their trees and trim the limbs when necessary we wouldn't have to go through this.  Also we do have some absentee land owners here and they are totally unaware.  The first time we lost power it was from a tree that was on an absentee land owner's lot.  It was a large tree, too.  Luckily one of the people who lives nearby came and cleaned up after the power company had cleared the road and restored power.  That time we were without power for 14 hrs.
Y'all have a good one and remember.....today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Well, went to WW yesterday and weighed in.  Ugh.  Now I have a lot of stuff to read and learn.  Hopefully I'll have some time for that this afternoon after I get back from having lunch with friends.  I'll have to choose carefully.  My goal is 20 lbs.  Doesn't sound like much, but it can be.  Also when I get back I'm turning on the Wii and getting in some tennis.
I've been making wine glass charms in hopes that they may sell on Labor Day weekend at a local winery that is having a "crush" festival.  Others from the gallery will be participating also.
We had rain yesterday....hooray!  We needed it.  I wasn't home when it rained here but it looks like it really came down hard.  I'd prefer a gentle soaking rain but any rain is better than none.  The garden certainly appreciated it.
Need to get a move on.  Need to order some things online before I head out.  Y'all have a delightful day and remember  A = A.

Monday, July 25, 2011

I'm biting the bullet and am going to go to my first Weight Watchers meeting today.  Kinda sounds like AA doesn't it?  I'm going because I haven't been able to lose weight.  And, being diabetic, weight is not a good thing.  I need to lose about 20 pounds.  'Course exercise would help.  Not that I'm a couch potato 'cause I'm not.  I am somewhat sedentary while doing my arty stuff and right now it's too damn hot to work outside much.  But I could make up every excuse in the world and I still would be somewhat out of shape and a little overweight.  Sooooo.....I'm going to give it a try.  It's difficult cooking for just me.  Pre-prepared foods are so much easier, but so much more not good for you.  And I'm going to try to find time to get in some exercise (mild at first).  I've started using 2 pound weights while waiting for the 'puter to do its thing.  Gonna get the Wii going with some of the sports, too.  I can do that in the evening.  Inside.
It's more fun with another person but....
Y'all have a productive day and.......breathe deeply and count to Zen.

Sunday, July 24, 2011

It's been hotter than usual here for a time now.  Luckily there are spots that get rain, but it's sporadic and you never know where it'll come down.  Lots of people doing the tubing thing on the "Hooch" in Helen.  Don't think I want to eat any fish caught downstream, if you catch my drift.
I watered the few plants in the garden yesterday morning and found an okra!  Looks there will be more.  I think it may like the hot dry weather, although the squash look like they would love some rain.  I'll water again this morning and see if there are any squash started.  I do see blossoms so maybe.....
We started our sale at the gallery and have had some sales.  No record breaking yet, but one can hope.  My philosophy about the sale is better some income than none.  We have 6 days to go and can only hope that notices in the paper will help.
It's Sunday, supposedly the last day of the week and the day of rest.  So why is Sunday the first day of the week on the calendar?
Y'all have a restful day, stay cool and ....... whatever.

Friday, July 22, 2011

I'm going over to a friend's house today to wash tiles.  These are hand painted tiles that are just sitting in the dust, waiting to get out into the world and sold.  This friend is the director of the gallery.  When I saw the tiles just sitting there in the dust I asked her why she wasn't selling them.  She said she just hadn't gotten around to it.  Sooooo......P and I ganged up on her last week and said we'd clean 'em up if she fed us lunch.  She agreed.  It's gonna be a hot and dirty job but I like the idea that we are helping a friend possibly earn some money selling her hand painted tiles.  I'd describe them to you but there's so much dust on them you can't see the surface.  We've even rigged up a display for them at the gallery....it's temporary but I'm sure we'll come up with something permanent shortly.
I need to fill the birdfeeders and get a few other things done before heading out so I'll wish y'all a wonderous day and realized dreams.

Thursday, July 21, 2011

I'm earlier than usual.  Going to the dentist to have the permanent "cap" put on my tooth.  Hopefully I'll quit biting the inside of my cheek when all is said and done.
I read daughter's blog and totally agree with her.  Why can't we take care of our own instead of everyone else in the world? (http://kyddryn.blogspot.com)  And one of the headlines this morning?  That our country may go into default on all the loans?  Good gravy, what is our government thinking?!
I'm gonna have a hissy fit along with my daughter.....'nuf said.
Y'all have a thoughtful day and let your congress person know that you aren't going to stand for it!  (Unless, of course, you are one of those who depends on government for everything and want to be taken care of for the rest of your life and want everything given to you for nothing and don't want to take responsibility for anything you do.)

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

It's a day for planting and catching up on other things.  The forecast is calling for rain but I'll believe it when it happens.  Going to plant the tomatoes and peppers TODAY.  I'm putting the pepper plants in a big pot on the back porch where they'll get the morning sun.  The tomatoes will be put in a big pot on the front porch and I'm trying one of those hanging upside-down thingies for one of them.
Glad to hear that Houston got some rain.  Hope the rest of those in need of it get some gentle ground-soaking rain soon.
Y'all have a productive day (like I hope to have) and.....(insert your own saying here).

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

It's guild day, then knitting.  I may even finish one of the knitting projects I'm working on.  Meantime I'll be trying one of those upside-down planters for one of my tomato plants.  I'm also going to plant the other tomatoes and the peppers.  The plants at my daughters are well on their way to bearing fruit.  It'll be a while before mine do anything.  But then it is a little cooler up here, not much, just a little.  The okra in the garden seems to be happy.  It's almost twice the size it was a week ago.  Hot weather agrees with it I guess.
Reckon I'd better scoot and get some planting done.  Y'all have a gorgeous day and ..... believe in your dream.

Monday, July 18, 2011

Picked blueberries yesterday morning and took them to daughter's for her Florida guests.  Went to World Market and Michael's for some needed things.  I only go when I need things and try to make only one trip for everything, gas prices being what they are.
We're doing a Christmas in July sale at the gallery next week in hopes that we can draw some people in to spend a little money and get their shopping done early.
Would be nice if Mama Nature would be a little less relentless.  We went right from winter to summer here and will probably go right to winter without much of an autumn.  Looks like one of those years.
Y'all have a good day even though it's Monday.

Sunday, July 17, 2011

Sun's out....gonna go pick blueberries.  Y'all have a glorious day and remember:  Life is a crooked road.  You are the result of how you take the turns.

Saturday, July 16, 2011

Nothin' in particular

Not much has been going on here.  We've gotten some rain, which is welcome.  The garden appreciates it anyway.  I'll be at the gallery all day.  Really need to get some new ideas in my head about projects to work on.  My creative juices seem to have dried up (temporarily, I hope).  Maybe when I get down to Michael's tomorrow I'll see something to spark an idea.
Today is my son's 42nd birthday.  Wow, has time flown.  Hard to believe.  He's in England with his family to get away from the Georgia heat.  It's raining there so they are pretty much stuck inside.  Bummer.
Still hoping the west gets the much needed rain.  Drought sucks.  Maybe if we all put the picture of it raining in TX, it'll happen.  Hey, couldn't hurt.
Found out a friend has a fairly serious health problem.  Hope she can get it taken care of.  What surprises me is that she doesn't have high cholesterol or any kind of heart condition 'cause her diet and smoking do not lead to healthy living.  I told her I thought it was the pickle juice she drinks.....yup, pickle juice.
Well, guess I'd better get a move on.  Y'all have the kind of day you wish for and remember.....only you can prevent wildfires.

Wishing

Wishing it would come a nice two or three day gentle rain to all the gardens that need it.....including mine.

Monday, July 11, 2011

Welllll, it didn't rain yesterday after all, so I hit the perimeter of the garden fence with Roundup on the outside so we can put the small critter fence on then that will complete that job.  Did some weeding around the squash and okra.  Have more okra plants than first thought I had.  Should have plenty of squash.  Garden could use some more weeding but it became too hot.  When I took of the head band it was soaking wet.  The overflow pipe needed some clearing so I got that done too.  That was it for the outside work.  Too hot.  Went to Lowe's and spent money.  The birds have to eat too and I bought a Clematis to plant where I had a rose bush next to the chimney.  Hopefully it likes the trellis that's there.  Also bought a weed whacker.  J can use it but it's going to stay here.  He can take the ones that don't work home and work on fixing them there where he can be in the shade and has all his tools handy.  It's not that I don't trust him.....I don't trust the frickin' evil faeries that like to play tricks at daughter's home.  They'd break that weed whacker in a heartbeat, I just know it.
Have the next two days off, yay, and plan on getting some stuff done around here since daughter and family are coming up for a couple of days so J can get some things done.  Gonna take daughter to Babies are everywhere and get a couple of necessary things.....one to contain baby when she becomes mobile (which won't be all that long from now) and one to sit said baby in so Mama doesn't have to have her in her lap to feed her.
It's 80 degrees already so it's gonna be a hot one today.  A nice shower in the afternoon might cool things off a bit.
Y'all have a calm day, don't let the heat get to ya and remember:  insanity is sooooo subjective.

Sunday, July 10, 2011

Yay!  I can see the giraffes now (just kidding).  The yard is mowed.  Daughter and family came up Friday and J mowed the yard yesterday.  He's coming back up tomorrow since there is so much to be done and he feels the need to take at least two days to get it accomplished.    I have the same wish as my daughter....that is that they could move up here.  It would make things so much easier.  See http://kyddryn.blogspot.com.
I was hoping to get some things done outside today but, alas, rain prevents me from doing anything.  Looks like I'll have to re-direct my efforts to the inside instead.  And, since we didn't open the gallery today, I need to take advantage of the time.  Some cleaning and laundry.....sigh.  So boring.  Maybe some sewing.  Need to embroider some fingertip towels to take to the gallery.
Guess I'd better get a move on and get something done, even if it's wrong.
Y'all have a wunnerful day and .....embrace life.

I need a day off.  I know, I know, I just got back from a very relaxing trip so why should I want another day off?  I have lots to do outdoors.  I think daughter and family are coming up today and spending the night.  Hopefully J can get the yard mowed otherwise I'm not going to be able to see the giraffes.  'Course just because they're coming up it'll probably rain.  I need to get down to the pond and check the pipe and do the Roundup thing on all the unwanted greenery.  No, I'm not spraying where it'll get into the pond.
It may be blueberry picking time.  I checked the neighbor's blueberry bushes last week and saw a few ripe ones and lots of almost ready ones.  We've had rain so those should be ready.  Ya have to love fresh blueberries.  Plus they're good for you.
We're not doing as well as we hoped at the gallery.  Don't know if it's because of the economy or because we just don't have the funds to do a lot of advertising.  Could be both I guess.
Well, I've some things to do before going in so y'all have an interesting day and smile a lot, it'll make people wonder what you're up to.

I'm off to Tennesee, y'all.  See ya when I get back in a few days.  In the meantime remember:  Freedom isn't free.

Don't know if I'll have time to post tomorrow.  I'm going to TN to visit friends for the 4th.  I do this every year but don't know how many more years there will be.  These friends are older than I and V has peritoneal cancer which is incurable.  It has begun to grow again, albeit slowly.  She says she's doing okay.  I'll see when I get there tomorrow.  It will be good to see them and my stay always relaxes me.  The only planned thing we may do is go see fireworks.  On the 4th family and friends come over and we pig out on food, after which we sit outside and watch all the fireworks in the surrounding area (their house is halfway up a ridge giving them a tremendous view).
I usually stay 4 days unless we've arranged for a longer time.  I figure they'll have had enough of me by then.  Since they don't have internet access I'll be out of touch for that time.  That's fine with me.  My days there are lazy days and I always feel refreshed when I get home.  V and I start the day on the lanai reading our books, watching birds, eating fruit and drinking our coffee.  It's very quiet there and peaceful.  Sometimes the hummingbirds entertain us chasing each other away from the feeder.  Miss Priss, the cat, stalks butterflies in the tall grass in front of us.  When J gets up he joins us for a bit then we start thinking about breakfast.  After that we plan, or don't plan, the day.
Y'all have a quiet and enjoyable holiday.  Don't blow any fingers off being foolish with fireworks.  And remember:  Freedom isn't free......keep our brave men and women in your thoughts, for without them we might be speaking a different language.

Didn't get a whole heck of a lot done yesterday.  Was able to cut down some small wild cherry trees that were blocking my view of the pond.  Then it was RoundUp time.  To those who oppose it's use, get over it.  I have to use it in order to keep some places under control.  And right now there's only me here.  At any rate it finally got too hot to do anything more.  My headband was soaked by the time I got through, as was every piece of clothing.  I won't get anything done today since I'll be going into the gallery.  By the way I sold a couple of pairs of earrings the other day.....yay.  I know my check this month is going to be small but that's better than nothing.  At least I sell a few things every month.  It does add up eventually but I sure am glad I don't have to rely on the income to live.
It's gonna be another hot one today.  Kinda glad I'll be inside at the gallery.  Don't know what I'll get done today.  I did post a picture of my latest project on my facebook page.  I'll see if i can figure out how to do it here.
  Wow!  it worked!
Y'all have a productive day and remember:  Get involved....the world is run by those who show up.
