By the beach

I just spent glorious days in NC with my brother and his new bride.  They have a condo practically on the beach.  Except for some traffic going by all you could hear was the surf.  D and I walked on the beach both mornings.  The first day we went for 3 miles, the second only 1 1/2 miles.  Yesterday morning when I left my legs were sooooo sore from walking on the sand.  The beach is a sea turtle hatching site and one  hatched the night I got there but we didn't see any of it.  D and my great-niece V went the next night but nothing happened.  There are volunteers that go down every night during hatching season to make sure as many babies as possible get to the sea. They even put up a little fence on each side of the path so the babies won't wander in the wrong direction.  The turtles only started coming ashore to lay their eggs in 2010 (if memory serves correctly).  Seeing my brother, his wife, my niece and her daughter was a delight and I hope to get back there next summer so I can sit on the balcony, drink my coffee and listen to the surf.  And, yes, walk on the sand.
