Testing....

Yesterday daughter came up with the kids.  It was time to give my grandson the dreaded third grade apptitude test.  I didn't realize she would be bringing the Sprout along so wasn't quite prepared with gate, etc.  Daughter did a great job of administering and Bird did a great job of taking.  It was, basically, an all day ordeal.  The good thing about the test is that it shows where Bird needs more work, such as math.
As for me, I tried my best to keep the Sprout occupied.  For the most part I think I succeeded.  While she didn't run me ragged, she did keep me occupied trying to find ways to keep her occupied.  I set up a card table with a blanket over it so she could have a "house"....I think she needs to be a bit older for that to work.  At any rate, I was quite tired when they finally left, after I jumped daughter's van because she accidentally left her lights on.  Went to bed early and made sure I got a good night's sleep.
Y'all have a productive day and .......learn something new, it'll keep your brain alive.

Time has stopped

There are two clocks that irk me.  One is in Helen and the other in Clarkesville.  When I drive into Helen to get to the gallery the clock is one of the first things I see.  It's always 26 minutes after 1.  The one in Clarkesville (it's on the courthouse) is always at 22 minutes after 4.  Yes, I know, they're right at least twice a day.  It just seems to me that by not fixing them the two places are telling people they don't care.  The one in Clarkesville shows different times on each of the four faces but I haven't paid enough attention to those to remember what time they show.  And I've only seen the one face on the one in Helen.  I just wish the ptb would give a hint that they care about first impressions.
'Nuff said.  Y'all have a pleasing day and remember:  the older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for (Will Rogers).

Lots to do

It's Saturday and I have a lot to do.  I won't bore you with the list but it includes laundry and house cleaning and grocery shopping.
Cat let me sleep in a bit this morning.  Woke up with a headache.  Don't know what that's all about.  Guess if I want to get anything done I'd better get going.

Bah!

I'm tired of the snipe and hype.  Bet there'll be enough hot air at the conventions to launch a hot air balloon.  Will be glad when the elections are over.

Daughter's coming up today sans enfants.  We're going to quilt guild.  Then I'm going to get her to teach me some stuff about my phone and how to get rid of some of the blogs I don't follow anymore.  Trying to get rid of blogs has not been made easy.  Wonder why.
Hermit Jim has written that his kitty cat is missing and has been for a week.  Maybe it's out tomming, maybe not.  Hopefully Jim will get him back or at least find out what happened.  I've had a cat go walkabout and it's upsetting not knowing.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for him.
Went to visit a couple yesterday that live out in the middle of nowhere.  She sells lace weight yarn on Etsy and showed us the different weights, colours, etc.  She's also written a book which is quite an accomplishment in itself.  And can she knit!  Some of her yarn is as thin as spider web silk.  I'm trying to talk her into coming to the gallery to play.  I told her she didn't have to join.  She also teaches Japanese embroidery.  We got to see some of it and all I can say is WOW.  I could never do it.  The time it takes to finish one piece is too much time for me.
Well, y'all have an interesting day.  Learn something new, try something new.  Put a little spice in your life.

This 'n' that

Cat let me sleep an extra hour this morning.  Woke up with a headache.  Must be from the change in weather.  Rained during the night, may rain today.  Going to the other gallery to put in my time.  Lots of motorcycle folks in Helen this weekend.  Lots of vroom, vroom noise.  Finished up the delicious pears my neighbor brought.  Now have more nice peaches and a great cantaloupe.  Have to take advantage of fresh fruit when it's available.
Y'all have a good day and stay calm....the poo-poo hasn't hit the oscillator yet.

and Nonsense

It's Friday, holy carp!  Been a while since I've done anything here.  Maybe that's because there hasn't been much to say.  Things at the gallery have been slooooooow.  J and I were talking the other day about whether or not to stay open in January (we close the month of February since we travel then) and decided not to since this last January was a bust.  I figure it'll give me time to get some sewing, etc. done.
The cat continues to be my alarm clock.  Doesn't matter that it might be a morning I could sleep in, oh no.  At any time between 6:30 and 7:00 it's "Wake up Mommy!" time.  Most times she jumps on my lower belly which, of course, is where my full bladder is.  So far I have refrained from throwing her off the bed.  Mostly I just roll over to get her off me.  So then she jumps on my hip.  Meowing all the time naturally.  Eventually I move, indicating that she has won, and I'll get up.  Actually it's my bladder that makes me get up.  The only advantage to all of this is that I can get on the 'puter for a while before really starting the day.
Y'all have a go-get-'em day and remember:  it's hard to be nostaligic when you can't remember anything.

It sure did rain a lot last night.  Some thunder and lightning along with it.  Foggy out there this morning.  Guess I'll still be going to the winery for second saturday set up.  Don't know how well anyone will do.  It's supposed to clear up and be sunny a little later.  One can only hope.
Had my three month check-up on Thursday.  My a1C was up a little and it looks like I've put on a couple of pounds (not good!).  I'm disheartened.  Dr. has put me on another injectable - not insulin - so we'll see if that helps.  I can still get into size 10's but they are snug.  I will NOT go back to wearing size 14's.  I need some self-discipline and need to exercise more.  Somehow I will make it happen.  Enough with oh woe is me....
Y'all have a marvelous weekend.

Stuff

Good news....daughter doesn't need glasses!  A little near sightedness in one eye and that's it.  The doc said he wished his vision was as good.  Glad to hear since that's one expense I don't have to worry about.
I was asked what a soap sock is.  Sharon, it's a crocheted bag with a drawstring that you put those soap bits in when you can't use them anymore.  That way you can really use up the soap and scrub yourself at the same time.  You can hang it on the faucet to keep it handy.  Cool, huh?
Off to the gallery today.  Think I'll try to get some more knitting dones.  Been working on a couple of scarves.  Then I may try to come up with some ideas for Christmas (groan).
Need to get started on saving the pears I was given.  Haven't seen that many in a loooong time.  Better start slicing, drying and freezing.
Y'all have a glamorous day and remember....organized people are just too lazy to look for things.

Meanderings

Taking daughter to get her eyes checked today.  Age and diabetes can affect vision subtly and she has mentioned a change in hers.  Would that her boyfriend would get a damn job and help with these expenses.  Sigh.....
It's been thundering this morning.  Looks like a gray day.  I slept in an extra 45 minutes this morning.  Even the cat didn't insist I get up.
Daughter brought the little one up yesterday afternoon and we played with her outside for a bit before coming in from the heat.  Sprout interacts with me more now which can be fun.  She even let me help her put her shoes on.  Daughter is coming along nicely with her knitting.  I asked her to crochet me another soap sock as I need one for the downstairs bath.
Got the tag for the "new" van.  Didn't cost much since the ad valorem tax was included in the purchase price (I reckon).  Gonna get a regular tag for my van when the time comes since the governor changed the rules regarding vanity tags.  At first you only had to pay extra the on time.  Now it's every year.  Sooooo, although the state won't lose much from me, it will lose that income.  I'd be willing to bet that if everyone reverted to regular tags, well.........
Y'all have an interesting day and remember:  every government interference in the economy consists of giving an unearned benefit, extorted by force, to someone at the expense of others.

One of my neighbors called yesterday evening asking if I'd like some pears.  Of course I said yes.  So he brought some by.  A whole carton of them!  Looks like I'll be doing some dehydrating.  These pears are delicious....nothing like the nearly tasteless ones you find in the market.  I think I'm going to have to give some away since there are sooooo many.  My daughter is coming up tomorrow so I'll give some to her and then take some in to the gallery.  Wish I could share them with all of you so you could enjoy them as much as I will.
Started another basket yesterday.  Of course I don't have the right size reed to finish it.  It's on order now.  If I can get enough made, maybe I can attempt to sell some.  They'll make nice gifts, too.
Well, need to get a move on.  WW today, as well as getting a tag for the van.  Other stuff to do.
Y'all have an interesting day and remember.....it isn't always what it seems to be.

Saturday, August 4, 2012

Man, did it rain last night!  It sounded like it wanted to come through the roof.  We had a good light show as well.  This morning is gray and damp so I guess I'll try to get some things done around the house and get a basket going.  I'm not a housekeeper so there are plenty of cobwebs and dust.  I think one could write a novel in the dust that's accumulated.
Am trying to dry some figs.  I attempted the first batch according to the directions that came with the dehyrator.  Guess they were referring to huge figs.  I quarted them as directed and they shrank to about the size of my little finger nail.  This time I'm attempting to dry them whole.  There are plenty more on the tree if this experiment doesn't work out and the birds and squirrels don't eat them.  I don't mind them getting the ones I can't reach on top, but would be happy if they left the ones on the lower branches alone.  Sometimes experimenting is the way one learns, yes?
Picked the first okra yesterday.  Only one.  I don't have many plants so this will go in the freezer until I have more.  I may even give a try frying some at some point.  I've only recently found that fried okra can be pretty good.  Never mind the stewed stuff......ew.  I still have some pear tomatoes on the tomato plants that need to be picked.  I sure did get a lot of those!  But they are yummy so I think maybe I'll try to go some next year, too.  Other veggies I may try....green beans, peas, squash.
Y'all have a glorious day and believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see.
