It's the prep

Yesterday I had the joy of having a colonoscopy.  The procedure itself isn't bad, although I now have a very sore throat and cough (probably from the oxygen), it's the prep.  Having had one in the past I thought I was prepared for spending a number of hours on the throne the day before and the morning of.  I had my phone, my iPad and a book.  Oh, and Depends for when I just had to get up and walk around before my legs went numb.  I'm sure that's more than you ever wanted to know but I had to share.  I actually got about 2 hours sleep.  My daughter was kind enough to go with me as she had to drive me home.  The anesthesia really hit me hard.  When I got home all I wanted to do was sleep.  She stayed with me for a while just to make sure I would be okay.  I dozed some with my kitty snuggled up with me. Later friend A came by after work to check on me.  Not long after she left I went to bed.  It wasn't even dark.  I slept for about 13 hours and believe I could sleep for a few more. I still have a sore throat though not as bad and I'm still tired.  Don't think I'll be going anywhere today.  Would like to know where the cough came from.  I was told that I even coughed while under the anesthesia, which surprised the heck out me and them.  Because of my age I was advised that I would need to have one in 5 years (just a suggestion).  Yeah, right.  Hopefully by then they will have come up with a better way.  If I make it another 5 years I'll consider it.
For those of you of a certain age I'm sure you understand.
Y'all have a loverly day.

The V.A. wanted me to have one, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. It didn't seem to be necessary to me, and I may regret it later.

Glad you were able to get some rest afterwards...maybe you needed the sleep. Have any strange dreams?

No strange dreams, HJ but I have a sore throat. I think it's from the oxygen. Thanks for coming by.

Hey, Momlady. My neighbor, a 2 x colon cancer survivor, had to have one of the dreadful tests every 3 months for 2 years. With all his experience, he told me the best prep is to eat very soft things (scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes) for 2 days before the actual prep. The instructions say to keep drinking the nasty stuff "until it's clear", right? Neighbor says you only really need to keep drinking until there's no more chunks. I know, TMI and too late to do any good.
My experience was not bad at all - up and dressed and ready for breakfast by the time Hubby was sent back for me. His - not so good. He was hit hard, like you, by the anesthesia and I had to practically drag him into the house. Same doctor, different reactions. Now neither of us has to have another for 10 years - yea!

Hey, Baby Sis, Information late is better late than never. Didn't eat any solid or semi-solid food for the 2 days before. Didn't help. Still say thank goodness for Depends. Thanks for the info.
